We’re inviting the community to provide feedback on a proposed trial to restrict heavy vehicle traffic on Howard Street, between Midland Highway and Goynes Road, during peak traffic periods.

If the trial goes ahead, heavy vehicles travelling through the area during restricted times would likely stay on Midland Highway and use the Epsom truck route via Lyons Street, White Hills.

Before any decision is made regarding a potential trial, we want to understand how it could affect all community members.

Community feedback closes Friday September 11.

We’re updating our Climate Change and Environment Strategy 2026-2031 and the community is invited to provide feedback on the draft strategy.

The previous strategy was developed with extensive feedback from the community and was designed as a long-term strategy with shorter term actions. Many of the original strategy’s actions are completed, currently underway, or have been delivered in other ways.

The new draft strategy retains the original strategy’s goals but updates the actions to reflect the organisation’s priorities for the next five years to 2031.

Survey closes Monday August 31.

The State Funeral Service for Russell Jack AM will be held at Ulumbarra Theatre on Saturday August 29 from 11am.

Beginning in the 1960s, Russell’s vision and hard work helped breathe new life into the Bendigo Chinese Association (BCA) and the Bendigo Easter Festival, including fundraising to replace the iconic procession dragon.

Together with his late wife Joan, he founded the Golden Dragon Museum in 1991 as a place to share and celebrate the stories, treasures and traditions of the Chinese community in Bendigo.

For 32 years, Russell guided the BCA as president, a role in which his warmth and generosity became as well-known as his dedication. For many years through to Easter 2026, he remained closely involved in the Easter Festival, leading the procession of Dai Gum Loong throughout the city.

Russell’s decades of service were honoured when he was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993 and named Victorian Senior Citizen of the Year in 1998.

A true gentleman, he will be fondly remembered in Greater Bendigo.
