Best wishes to all teams competing in this weekend’s Heathcote District Football and Netball League grand finals 🏆

Strauch Recreation Reserve in Huntly is ready for a huge weekend of footy, thanks to our dedicated Parks and Open Space staff who maintain the grounds year-round.

After a big season, our team has spent the past few days preparing the reserve to ensure it’s looking it’s best for the big dance.

Check out this video to see how good the reserve is looking 🤩

From October 1, there will be some changes to what can go in your kerbside organics bin 🍌🍎

Food scraps and garden material collected from Greater Bendigo households will soon be processed locally by Western Composting Technology (WCT).

To maximise the quality of the compost produced, some of the things we used to put in the organics bin will need to go in the recycling or general waste bins.

From October 1, only the following items can go in the organics bin:

• All food scraps
• Garden material, lawn clippings, pruning, weeds and small branches
• Compostable liners provided by the City
• Natural timber (untreated, unstained)

The following items must go in your recycling bin instead:

• All cardboard, including raw cardboard and pizza boxes
• All clean paper products, including newspapers

The following items must go in your general waste bin instead:

• Soiled, greasy paper and shredded paper
• Paper towel and tissues
• Wooden skewers, cutlery and toothpicks
• Pet waste, including dog poo, cat poo and litter
• Hair and animal fur
• Tea bags
• Bioplastics, such as takeaway coffee cups

Processing organics locally is an important step towards a more circular economy, where resources are recycled and reused close to where they are generated. It has also created jobs for our region and will help reduce the carbon footprint of managing our organic waste.

Delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government, the upgrades include:

• Two additional new courts
• Two refurbished old courts
• Accessibility improvements
• Better lighting in outdoor netball courts

It will also create lasting benefits for our community, inspire the next generation of athletes, and continue to attract elite sporting events to our region.

We're offering grants of up to $2,000 to help community groups host festive meal events or provide food relief hampers for distribution during the Christmas and New Year period.

The Community Festive Season Meals Grants support food security, social inclusion, and stronger local community connections, especially for residents who may be experiencing financial hardship, social isolation, or exclusion.

The grants aim to support a range of small, local activities across Greater Bendigo between December 1 and December 31, 2026.

This year, the cost of living is affecting many people, and we hope these grants will help bridge a gap at a time when many other supports are unavailable.

Applications close at 4pm on Wednesday September 30, 2026.

If your group is interested in applying, please contact a City Grants Officer:
