I'm honoured to be joining an outstanding panel of experts for the upcoming hOurHTA webinar:
"Are GLP-1 Therapies Really Something Special? Clinical, Economic and Policy Perspectives."

As a Specialist GP with RACGP Recognised Extended Skills in Obesity Management, I have the privilege of caring for people living with obesity every day. Their stories continually remind me that obesity is far more than a lifestyle issue—it is a complex, chronic disease that deserves the same evidence-based, compassionate care as any other long-term health condition.

My goal has always been simple: to ensure that people living with obesity receive the same respect, evidence-based care, and access to effective treatment as people living with any other chronic disease.

That mission extends well beyond my consulting room.
It is why I am passionate about sharing knowledge and practical experience with GPs, specialists and the wider medical community through conferences, workshops and educational programs—helping translate rapidly evolving evidence into practical, real-world strategies that clinicians can confidently apply in everyday practice.

It is also why I actively engage with policymakers, government leaders and professional organisations to advocate for better recognition of obesity as a serious chronic disease, improved models of care, and equitable access to evidence-based treatment for Australians living with obesity.
As both a clinician and educator, I firmly believe that meaningful change happens when clinical evidence, education and health policy work together.
GLP-1 receptor agonists have undoubtedly transformed obesity management, but they also raise important questions around clinical effectiveness, affordability, sustainability and equitable access. These are conversations we must have if we are to build a healthcare system that delivers the right treatment to the right patient at the right time.

I'm looking forward to sharing the clinical perspective alongside Associate Professor Chris Schilling and Honorary Professor Andrew Mitchell, and exploring how clinicians, economists and policymakers can work together to improve outcomes for people living with obesity.

Thank you to the hOurHTA team for the invitation. I'm looking forward to what promises to be a thoughtful and important discussion.

How a small, dedicated team of GPs advocated for patients to have affordable access to ‘lifechanging’ obesity treatment.

Many have asked why there were no posts for a while now.
I was extremely busy with few projects including an advocacy project to get weight management medication on PBS/ Medicare.

Today the first step is realised with the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee
(PBAC) recommended one of the medication to be listed with certain restrictions
Great news and good to see the fruits of the hard work of the last few months.
