💉 Vitamin K for Newborn Babies — What Parents Need to Know 👶✨

Vitamin K is an important vitamin that helps our blood clot properly. Babies are born with very low levels of vitamin K, which can put them at risk of a rare but serious condition called Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB).

This post explains:
🍼 Why newborns have low vitamin K levels
🩸 What VKDB is and why prevention matters
đź’‰ The different ways vitamin K can be given
⚠️ Signs and symptoms parents should watch for
❤️ Why vitamin K is recommended for all newborns

We know there can be a lot of information to take in as a new parent, and it’s completely okay to ask questions. Understanding the purpose of vitamin K can help families make informed decisions for their baby’s health and wellbeing.

Fuel for growing brains 🧠✨

What we pack in our kids’ lunchboxes plays a big role in how they learn, focus, and feel throughout the day. A balanced, nutritious lunch helps support steady energy levels, concentration, memory, and mood — all essential for a productive day at school.

Foods high in sugar and processed ingredients can lead to quick energy spikes followed by crashes, which may show up as difficulty concentrating, low energy, or irritability in the classroom.

🥕 Aim to include:
• A source of protein (e.g. chicken, eggs, yoghurt, cheese)
• Wholegrains for sustained energy (e.g. wholegrain bread, crackers, pasta)
• Fresh fruit and vegetables for vitamins and fibre
• Healthy fats (e.g. avocado, nuts, seeds)
• Plenty of water

Small, consistent changes can make a big difference in supporting your child’s focus, behaviour, and overall wellbeing.

If you’re unsure where to start, speak with your child’s GP or paediatrician for personalised advice. 🩵🧡💚

We’re open today, Tuesday 28th April! 🎉

After being closed for the past 4 days, we’re excited to welcome everyone back. We’ve also officially transitioned to our new software system Xestro — something we’ve been working hard on behind the scenes.

As we’re still learning and getting everything running smoothly, there may be some delays with requests and responses, especially with what we expect to be a very busy day of phone calls and enquiries.

We kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this transition. Your support and kindness mean a lot to our team as we navigate this new system đź’›

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you all today!

🚨 Important Notice for Our Families 🚨

Leading Steps Paediatrics will be closed on Friday and Monday as we transition to a new patient management system with Xestro to better support your care experience.

📞 Please note: Our phone lines will be turned off from 2:00pm Thursday afternoon (today) and results will cease filtering into our old system ahead of the transition.

During this time:
• Our clinic will be closed until Tuesday
• No requests or enquiries will be actioned
• There may be a backlog of requests once we reopen
• Phone lines will be intermittent
• If your child requires urgent medical attention, please see your GP or nearest emergency department

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we make these important improvements. We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday with an even better system in place đź’™

đź’ś International Purple Day đź’ś

Today we stand in support of the millions of people around the world living with epilepsy—a neurological condition that is often misunderstood, but far more common than many realise.

At Leading Steps Paediatrics, we are passionate about raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting families navigating epilepsy in children. Every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and empowered—at school, at home, and in their community.

Let’s use today as a reminder to educate ourselves, show kindness, and wear purple proudly 💜

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I try, but I fail a lot” It’s normal. 🫶🏼

You can know exactly what to say... and still lose your cool, shutdown, or regret things. It’s not because you don’t care—it’s your nervous system in survival mode.

If you weren’t raised with emotional safety, it makes sense that it’s tough to offer it. But it’s something you can learn, and you can break the cycle. You can be the safe space your child needs. ✨❤️‍🩹
