The strongest investment I've ever was in building a body that will carry me through life.
For those of you who are new to my profile, I became a naturopath because of a significant health issue in my 20s. That experience changed the direction of my life and sparked my passion for herbs, vitamins, minerals, nutrition, and everything related to movement and exercise.
Today, my non-negotiables are simple:
3 x 45-minute weight training sessions each week
2 Pilates sessions each week
Walking 10,000 steps, 3 times per week
As a naturopath, I believe these habits become even more important during perimenopause and menopause.
Strength training isn't just about building muscle,it helps:
Preserve lean muscle mass as oestrogen declines.
Support bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
Improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.
Maintain independence, balance and confidence as we age.
Support mood, energy and cognitive health.
Pilates complements this by improving posture, core strength, pelvic floor function, mobility and body awareness, while regular walking supports cardiovascular health, recovery, stress management and overall wellbeing. I love teaching Pilates but moreso engaging in it myself !
Of course, nutrition, quality sleep, stress management and targeted herbs and nutrients all play an important role too,but movement is the foundation that allows everything else to work better.
One thing I've learnt over the years is this:
Your only competition is the person you were yesterday.
Don't compare your chapter one to someone else's chapter twenty.
Be real.
Be consistent.
Keep showing up.
Small actions, repeated over time, create extraordinary health.
When we choose ourselves;not out of selfishness, but out of self-respect,life begins to flow. We have more energy, more joy, greater resilience, and a deeper sense of peace.
Your future self is being built by the choices you make today. The last 6 Months has been a time to ground and focus on that.
Choose yourself. Every single day. đź’š
