**Thursday reflections from the clinic...**
Lately, I’ve noticed a recurring theme in conversations with patients.
Many people are so focused on avoiding illness and prolonging life that they’ve lost sight of what it means to truly live.
There’s a tendency to scrutinise every symptom, fear every possible diagnosis, and invest enormous energy into extending lifespan, often at the expense of quality of life.
Health anxiety is increasingly common.
As a practitioner, I deeply value health. It’s the foundation of my work. Caring for your body, building sustainable habits, and making informed choices all matter. But the aim isn’t simply longevity,it’s vitality in the day to day. It’s about creating a life that feels meaningful, fulfilling, and aligned with who you are.
Health should support your life, not restrict it.
Rather than constantly focusing on avoiding disease, consider shifting your attention toward building health.
Spend time outdoors.
If your mind feels overwhelmed, reconnect with your body, move in ways that feel good.
Engage with the people you care about.
Exercise because it enhances your wellbeing, not out of fear.
Explore new places when you can.
Be open to new experiences.
Capture moments that matter.
Pause to appreciate simple things, like a sunset.
Express appreciation and love openly.
Even small interactions, like acknowledging animals on your walk, can bring a sense of connection.
While we cannot control every aspect of our health or predict the future, we can choose how we engage with the present.
The goal is not to live in fear of what might happen, but to live with intention today.
Continue to care for yourself, prioritise nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and meaningful relationships. These are the foundations of good health. Choose this from a space of self love not self sacrifice or fear.
Then allow yourself to trust that foundation and fully engage with your life.
Ultimately, a well-lived life is not defined by how cautiously it was preserved, but by how fully it was experienced!
Set things into motion. Do you with ease and enjoy. In the end Joy is also the best medicine for great health !

The strongest investment I've ever was in building a body that will carry me through life.

For those of you who are new to my profile, I became a naturopath because of a significant health issue in my 20s. That experience changed the direction of my life and sparked my passion for herbs, vitamins, minerals, nutrition, and everything related to movement and exercise.

Today, my non-negotiables are simple:
3 x 45-minute weight training sessions each week
2 Pilates sessions each week
Walking 10,000 steps, 3 times per week

As a naturopath, I believe these habits become even more important during perimenopause and menopause.

Strength training isn't just about building muscle,it helps:
Preserve lean muscle mass as oestrogen declines.
Support bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
Improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.
Maintain independence, balance and confidence as we age.
Support mood, energy and cognitive health.

Pilates complements this by improving posture, core strength, pelvic floor function, mobility and body awareness, while regular walking supports cardiovascular health, recovery, stress management and overall wellbeing. I love teaching Pilates but moreso engaging in it myself !

Of course, nutrition, quality sleep, stress management and targeted herbs and nutrients all play an important role too,but movement is the foundation that allows everything else to work better.

One thing I've learnt over the years is this:

Your only competition is the person you were yesterday.

Don't compare your chapter one to someone else's chapter twenty.

Be real.
Be consistent.
Keep showing up.

Small actions, repeated over time, create extraordinary health.

When we choose ourselves;not out of selfishness, but out of self-respect,life begins to flow. We have more energy, more joy, greater resilience, and a deeper sense of peace.

Your future self is being built by the choices you make today. The last 6 Months has been a time to ground and focus on that.

Choose yourself. Every single day. đź’š

* natural alternatives to support GLP-1 pathways

Still bloated, uncomfortable or reacting to foods… and no one can tell you why?
