Something has gone seriously wrong when **very young children are being introduced to skincare routines before their skin even needs them.**

Healthy young skin is not ageing skin. It does not need serums, exfoliating acids, peptides, masks, “glow” products or complicated routines simply because beauty culture has made them desirable.

Children are now being taught to inspect perfectly normal skin for pores, texture, dullness and imperfections.
That should concern every parent.

A child's skin is still developing. It has its own barrier, microbiome, immune activity and natural renewal processes.

Why interfere with healthy biology when there is no problem to treat?

And this is the principle I want parents to remember throughout this series:

**The skin is an indicator of what the body is dealing with, so this must always be taken into account.**

If a child develops acne, dermatitis, recurring sensitivity, inflammation or other skin changes, I don't believe the first response should automatically be *“What product can we put on it?”*

The better question is:

“What is happening within this child's body — and why is the skin showing us this?

Hormonal changes, nutrition, digestion, stress, environment, sensitivities and other internal influences may all need consideration as part of the bigger picture.

That doesn't mean skin should never be cared for.

It means **care should have a reason.**

For healthy young skin, simple is often enough.

And where cleansing is needed, I have always preferred uncomplicated approaches using traditional ingredients such as **clay and goat milk**, rather than teaching children that they require an adult-sized beauty routine.

Our children have an entire lifetime ahead of them to buy skincare.

**We do not need to create a beauty problem where one does not exist.**

Before buying your child another skincare product, ask:

The laughter they have shared.

The tears they have cried.
