More furry friends 🐐🐖🐏 Back in August, to celebrate the Ekka, our Palm Lake Care Beachmere residents welcomed some very special visitors, of the barnyard animal variety. Along with cuddling piglets and adorable lambs, our residents enjoyed Dagwood Dogs, strawberry ice creams and carnival games. Celebrations like these are so important for helping our residents stay connected to the wider community (and they're also a lot of fun!).

Our Palm Lake Care Bargara residents love welcoming visitors – especially when they're this cute! Visits from animals give residents a chance to reach out, touch and connect, helping to reduce stress, spark conversation and bring a sense of calm. Like integral links in a very important chain, everyone’s role here at Palm Lake Care makes a difference. Meet Gail Ryan, our amazing Administration Officer at Palm Lake Care Toowoomba.

Gail brings kindness, care and efficiency to her role as Administration Officer at Palm Lake Care Toowoomba, backed by more than 20 years' experience in aged care. Her days cover everything from rostering and general administration to answering enquiries – with rostering topping her list of favourites. "I enjoy the fulfilment of filling a roster!" she says, right alongside the chats she shares with residents.

Away from the office, Gail hitches up her caravan and heads off camping whenever she gets the chance. Residents might be surprised to learn she once competed in horse riding events as a young rider.

Her advice for anyone considering a career in aged care is simple: be patient and respectful, both to residents and to your colleagues.

Getting outside and getting our hands dirty does more good than you may realise 🪏🌞

Time in the garden usually means time in the sunshine, which does wonders for mood and energy. There are physical benefits, too – bending, reaching and working with our hands all help keep joints and muscles moving. Gardening is also unhurried, tactile work – pulling weeds, watering seedlings, all tasks that keep us present and focused.

For the residents of Palm Lake Care Bethania, the garden is a place to stay active, get some sun, and enjoy the small win of seeing things grow 🩵

That's what Paulina loves most about her job at Palm Lake Care Mt Warren Park. In her role as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), Paulina spends most of her time supporting residents with their daily routines – and seeing them smile makes her day. Best described as patient, empathetic and friendly, Paulina says her job calls for a lot of love and care.

"You need patience and respect," she says. "Don’t presume to know what people want – always check twice. Take time to learn about your residents."

In our communities, special events are about more than just a party – there's a lot of teamwork that happens behind the scenes in the lead up! At Palm Lake Care Bargara, our residents got together to make a delicious White Christmas slice to celebrate Christmas in July 🧑‍🍳🍰 These are the kinds of activities that do more than bring joy – they make memories.

The circus came to Palm Lake Care Caloundra! 🤹‍♂️🎪 A recent visit from the Coastal Caring Clowns was very well received by residents, who enjoyed spending the day dancing and playing games with them. Based in Buderim, the Coastal Caring Clowns are incredible volunteers who dedicate their time to bringing happiness to the community... all through clowning! We hope to have them back soon.
