The unlayering: winter wellness experience

Over 90 slow minutes, flow through a ritual of warmth and contrast in our east-coast Wellness Garden. Sauna heat, ice bathing cold, a luxurious DIY facial with Australian botanicals from and a warming house-made pepperberry chai. A gentle shedding of layers long held. Off Season exclusive experience.

The warmth has returned 🔥

A couple of weeks of no steam, no heat, no slow exhale between hot and cold...

And in that pause, we were reminded how much this ritual holds

how the sauna steadies us,
how contrast awakens us,
how these simple rhythms shape our days in ways we often don’t notice… until they’re gone.

Sometimes the rhythm falters. 🌊

Over the past week, our sauna has been closed, not by choice, but by circumstance. The elements that hold our warmth have needed tending, and in this remote corner of the world, even the simplest parts take time to arrive.

What would be a quick fix elsewhere becomes, here, an exercise in patience.
But perhaps there is something in that.
We are reminded that not everything can be rushed.

That pauses are not failures, but part of the cycle... an invitation to slow, to soften, to trust in timing we don’t always control.

Selkie has always been shaped by the elements, and right now, we find ourselves in a moment of stillness.

A breath held before the exhale.

We’ll be closed for a few more days as we wait, repair, and restore.

And when the heat returns, it will carry with it a deeper appreciation... for the heat, for the process, and for all of you who move gently alongside us.

Thank you for your patience. We can’t wait to welcome you back into the warmth. 🔥

Trusting my flow 🌊

One of my favourite quotes of all time…
“Flowing will get you places forcing never could.”

This applies to so much in life, but especially when working with the body.

No body is the same.
There is no one-size-fits-all.
No single protocol that holds all the answers.

When I first started as a practitioner, I followed every test, every framework, every “right way” of doing things…
But if I’m honest, I wasn’t truly listening.

I didn’t fully trust myself, and so sometimes, things felt forced.
Over time, I deepened my awareness.
Refined my palpation.
Studied many different ways of working with the body.
But most importantly… I learned to TRUST what I FEEL.

Now, with a single touch, I can sense so much of what’s happening beneath the surface, and instead of forcing an outcome, I follow the body’s natural rhythm and flow.

Because the body doesn’t need to be pushed.
It needs to be heard.

As practitioners, our greatest tool isn’t just what we know —
it’s how deeply we listen.

Through the subtle “eyes” and “ears” in our fingertips, the body tells us everything we need… and more.

We’re often taught there’s a right way and a wrong way in bodywork.

But I believe the real power lies in finding your way.
Your flow.
Your rhythm.
Your trust.

Because knowledge may inform your hands…
but trust is what truly guides them. ✨🤍🦭

Selkie exists because of the people who walk through our doors seeking rest, connection, healing and a moment to breathe.

Whether you’ve saunad, received a treatment, or simply followed along from afar, you are part of Selkie, and you give us the opportunity to exist in the place we love, sharing what we care about deeply.

This year has taught us the power of slowing down... How important it is to tend to our nervous systems, our bodies, and each other. Selkie was created as a place of refuge, and it’s been an honour to watch it become exactly that for so many of you.

As we move through the festive season, we hope you gift yourself moments of softness. Time in nature. Deep breaths. Gentle movement. Rest without guilt.
