Two people can point to exactly the same place and tell me they have lower back pain.
That doesn’t mean they have the same problem.
And it certainly doesn’t mean they automatically need the same rehabilitation program.
Pain tells us something important.
But the location of that pain is only one piece of information.
I want to understand the person attached to it.
How do they move?
What’s their history?
Where are they restricted?
Where do they lack strength or control?
What happens when we test them?
That’s one of the principles behind the HR Method:
We don’t rehabilitate a lower back. We rehabilitate the person standing in front of us.
I’m currently turning the method I’ve developed through years of assessing and rehabilitating clients into a structured course for trainers.
I’ll be sharing more of these principles here as I build it.
Because whether you’re experiencing pain yourself or you’re a trainer trying to help someone who is, the starting point is the same:
Understand the person before you try to solve the problem.
