Bad posture, forward head position, and sedentary work have long been blamed as the main culprits behind neck pain.
But the most up-to-date evidence doesn’t actually support a direct causal link between so-called “good” or “bad” posture and pain. Wild, I know.
What research points to more consistently is a lack of spinal mobility and kinesiophobia, which is a fear of movement, as the real drivers of persistent neck pain.
So if your neck is giving you grief, the smartest move is putting your science hat on. Start understanding the factors actually relevant to your situation, and focus on what you can change.
One thing that’s massively overlooked? Neck strength training.
Most people mobilise it, massage it, and baby it. Very few people actually load it.
Progressive neck strengthening can improve tissue tolerance, reduce sensitivity, and give your brain evidence that movement is safe again.
So... protect your neck. Train it.
