A little peek behind the curtains at Seed… 🧺

What’s in the basket today?

A feather duster… because the studio needs cleaning, and I’ve got some blanket origami to do. (Yes, folding yoga blankets is a yoga pose in itself! 😂)

My computer… because I need to respond to your emails and… watch this space… there’s a newsletter coming your way later today.

Clean tea towels… because there are always tea towels to wash, fold and replace.

Herbal tea bags… because the appetite for herbal tea at Seed is insatiable. I’m pretty sure some people come for the tea and stay for the yoga. 🍵

A poetry book… because I’ve got two classes to teach this morning and I like to have a little inspiration tucked away. A beautiful poem can sometimes say what we need to hear better than a hundred words from me.

Coffee… that one speaks for itself. ☕️

And my packed lunch… because running a yoga studio needs fuel!

One thing we’ve hopefully busted the myth on here at Seed is that you need to be flexible to do yoga. You absolutely don’t. Yoga meets you exactly where you are.

But I have discovered that you do need to be pretty flexible to be a small business owner. Flexible with your time, your plans, your expectations… and sometimes your ability to juggle a basket full of random things on the way out the door!

Happy Friday from behind the scenes at Seed 💚.

Happy Monday! Have you booked your yoga for the week yet?

There’s something super nice about opening your calendar and seeing a few little pockets of time that are just for you. It means you’re far more likely to actually make it to class, rather than getting to Sunday wondering where the week went!

So here’s a reminder, get your week sorted and make some time for yourself and your practice?

Here are a few classes you might not have tried yet:

🌿Wednesday 10.50am | Meditate & Move with Lisa Matthews
Find your centre with a beautiful blend of meditation and gentle movement. A midweek reset to help you feel calm, grounded and ready for the rest of the week.

🌿Wednesday 5pm | Slow Flow & Yin with Lisa Allwell**
The best of both worlds. Gentle, mindful movement followed by deliciously slow Yin stretches to leave you feeling open, relaxed and quietly restored.

🌿Thursday 6pm | Strength for Yogis with Ryan
Build strength, endurance and stability to support your yoga practice and your overall fitness. Strong bodies make happy yogis!

🌿Thursday 7.20pm | Yoga Nidra & Yin with Ryan
The perfect antidote to busy days and busy minds. A deeply relaxing practice to help you release tension, unwind and settle into a beautiful night's sleep. Side effects may include blissful naps.

🌿Sunday 4.30pm | Myofascial Release with Vickie
Ease muscle tension, improve mobility and reconnect with your body using specialised techniques and massage balls. Think of it as a little tune-up for your body.

So, what are you waiting for? Pick a class, book your spot and make yourself a date.

We'll see you on the mat!

Winter is the perfect excuse to press pause for a little while, wrap yourself in a blanket and let someone else do the nurturing for a change.

If that sounds like exactly what you need right now, we'd love to invite you to join us this Saturday for a beautiful sound, breath and meditation event, Under a Crescent Moon with Eva Brookes

Imagine settling into a cosy nest of blankets while waves of sound gently wash over you. Guided meditation, breathwork and the healing vibrations of these beautiful instruments work together to quiet a busy mind, soothe the nervous system and leave you feeling deeply rested and restored. It's ninety minutes where nothing is expected of you.

Just breathing, listening, receiving and allowing yourself to be nurtured.

Expect to leave feeling lighter, calmer and more connected to yourself.
And the person holding this space couldn't be more perfect: Many of you already know Eva Brookes. She's one of our own and a much-loved member of the Seed community. You'll often find her on the mat practising alongside you and she embodies the calm, authenticity and presence that she brings to her work.

An accomplished musician and trained Sound of Being™ facilitator, Eva has a beautiful way of creating spaces that feel safe, nurturing and deeply restorative. If you joined us for her sessions last year, you'll know exactly what we're talking about. The feedback was extraordinary and we've had so many people asking when she'd be back.

Bring your yoga mat, a blanket and anything else that will help you feel warm and comfortable. We'll take care of the rest.

When: Saturday 18 July at 4.30pm at Seed Yoga + Wellness, 1A Salisbury Ave, Blackburn
Cost: $65
Bookings: https://www.seedyogawellness.com.au/workshops

I spent part of last year rehabbing an injury in a physio-led strength training gym.

It was one of those spaces where people are doing important work. Rebuilding strength, restoring function, getting their bodies back online after injury. I have lots of respect for it.

But I couldn’t help noticing something: The stronger people were getting, the tighter many of them looked. Between sets, there was this sense of holding on. I watched how many of them moved, stiffly.

Not wrong. Just… interesting. Because there was no stretching. No downshifting. No space for the body to unwind what the load had created.

And it made something very clear to me. We don’t need to choose between strength training and yoga. We need both.

Strength training builds capacity. It helps bones, muscles, and joints become more resilient. The research on this is solid and well established.

But yoga brings something strength training doesn’t: release, range, and nervous system regulation. The research on this is solid and well established too.

Slow, mindful movement and yin postures help the body come out of “doing” and back into “being.” Breath slows. Fascia softens. The system learns how to downshift again.

Without that counterbalance, strength can start to look like holding. With it, strength becomes integrated, spacious, and usable.

I don’t see yoga and strength training as in competition. I see it as what makes strength feel like home in the body. One builds the structure. The other creates the space inside it.

And together, they build something much more interesting than either could alone: a body that is strong, mobile, adaptable, and able to truly recover. Do both! See you on the mat. Lisa x
