✨ Level 1 Intensive has begun ✨

Today we welcomed a beautiful group of new students as they embarked on the first of three intensive training sessions underpinning the Dhamma Yoga digital handbook.

Together we explored the foundations of Yoga, its historical development, the systems of Yoga, and the deeper essence of Dhamma - inviting each student to reconnect with the calling that first inspired them to step onto this path.

This is more than a teacher training. It is an invitation to learn, to question, to practise, and to remember who we truly are.

We are honoured to share authentic yogic wisdom through a living lineage and look forward to witnessing each student’s journey unfold.

May this be the beginning of a lifelong path of learning, service and self-discovery 🙏

🌿 Why Your Lats Matter More Than You Think

The latissimus dorsi (lats) are far more than pulling muscles. They form a powerful bridge between your arms, spine, pelvis and opposite leg, helping your body move as one integrated system.

When your lats are active, they help:
✨ Stabilise the shoulders
✨ Support the spine
✨ Improve posture
✨ Enhance breathing
✨ Create lighter, more efficient movement

When they’re underactive, other muscles often compensate, contributing to neck tension, shoulder discomfort and lower back pain.

At Dhamma Yoga, we don’t chase flexibility alone. We cultivate awareness, strength and intelligent movement. Poses such as Downward Dog, Plank, Chaturanga, Dolphin and Side Plank naturally awaken this powerful connection.

Strong lats don’t just build stronger shoulders. They help create a stronger, more connected body.

🙏 Move with awareness. Strengthen with wisdom.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga & Scoliosis: Can Yoga Really Help?

Did you know that scoliosis is more than just a curved spine? It also involves muscular imbalances, changes in breathing mechanics, posture, and sometimes chronic pain.

Research and decades of clinical experience suggest that a carefully designed yoga practice may help many people with scoliosis by:

🌿 Improving posture and body awareness
🌿 Strengthening the muscles that support the spine
🌿 Increasing flexibility in tight areas
🌿 Enhancing breathing capacity by opening the rib cage
🌿 Reducing muscular tension and discomfort
🌿 Building confidence in movement and everyday activities

One of the pioneers in this area, Larry Hatlett, highlighted that specific, asymmetrical yoga postures, rather than simply practising both sides equally, may help address the unique muscular patterns seen in scoliosis. Since every curve is different, yoga should always be adapted to the individual’s spinal pattern.

At Dhamma Yoga, we believe in an evidence-informed approach that combines the wisdom of yoga with modern anatomy and biomechanics. Our focus is not on “straightening” the spine overnight, but on helping people move with greater balance, stability, comfort and confidence.

✨ Yoga doesn’t promise a perfect spine. It helps create a stronger, more resilient body and a calmer, more resilient mind.

⚠️ Important: If you have moderate or severe scoliosis, or experience significant pain, always seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional and practise under the supervision of an experienced yoga teacher familiar with scoliosis.

“Every spine tells a different story. Yoga teaches us how to listen to it.”
