🌟🌟Build your confidence with EMDR Therapy!🌟🌟
Still feeling a bit unsure about when and how to use EMDR with your clients? One of the biggest things holding clinicians back from advancing their EMDR practice is not a lack of knowledge or skill. More often, it is a lack of confidence.
At The Wattle Centre, EMDR consultation is definitely not about proving what you know. It is about creating a supportive space to learn, refine your skills, and build confidence in your clinical decision-making and understanding of Shapiro's standard protocol.
Some of the strategies in the attached image can also help you get more from your consultation experience.

**Free Webinar: Keeping up with EMDR Research**
Staying on top of the literature can be challenging when balancing clinical work, professional development, and life in general. To counter this, earlier this year, Logan Harvey and I put together a brief research update for Consultant Day at the EMDR Association of Australia Conference. We had a number of people ask if we could make the content available more broadly, so we are pleased to be offering it as a free webinar.
Join us at 6pm on 1st July online, for a concise overview of some of the most relevant EMDR research from the past 12 months, along with a look at emerging developments and future directions in the field.
Places are free, but registration is essential https://www.thewattlecentre.com/newsandresources

Want to improve your understanding of EMDR Therapy? I recommend reading this recent article published in The Wall Street Journal by Pulitzer journalist Michael Waldholz about his experience of EMDR as a client.

Discounted when it emerged in the 1980s, and still not fully understood, EMDR has since emerged as a trusted therapy. Here’s how it healed my trauma.

Interested in what is happening with regards to EMDR in the legal field? Listen to this recent podcast from the ABC where Dr Katie Bird, Christopher Rudge and Anthony Hurst share their experiences and expertise, and help us see what work needs to be done.
Thank you to all involved.

Imagine you are a victim of crime and need therapy to help deal with a traumatic memory. Would you go ahead if it meant that your case might not be prosecuted because the treatment could deem your evidence unreliable or inadmissible in court?

Feeling up skilled and energised after a brilliant day learning from the fantastic Renee Beer regarding the EMDR Eating Disorder Protocol.
It was an honour to host such an experienced and skilled international therapist. It was also a joy to see some of Australian’s most experienced eating disorder clinicians build on their skills in approaching their work from a trauma focused approach.
Thank you all!

Many of you have been following the recent media coverage around the legal impact of mental health interventions, particularly EMDR. I have had lots of questions around the historical context of the current situation. To address this, together with Anthony Hurst and Logan Harvey, we authored an article for the University of Melbourne’s Pursuit to shed light on the issue.

Here we outline that, despite strong evidence for EMDR, outdated legal assumptions continue to pose potential barriers for survivors looking for justice and healing, and in some cases, can even affect whether prosecutions proceed.

The article highlights why this gap persists and why greater alignment between current evidence and legal practice is needed

And its live. Grateful to have been able to add to the conversation. We know psychological interventions like EMDR can be lifesaving for some. Obviously no one shound need to chose between their mental health and justice, especially not due to outdated and unscientific legal precedent.

Katie Bird sought psychological help for intrusive memories related to alleged sexual abuse. Her court case was discontinued because she underwent eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
