The Senate inquiry into women’s health is an important and positive step towards understanding what women need before, during and after birth.

At She Births®, much of our work is upstream: helping women and partners enter birth informed, supported and empowered, with the aim of creating healthier experiences from the beginning.

This inquiry is an important chance for women to share what helped, what was missing and what needs to change.

Who told you that birth was scary?

We took conversations about birth to the streets of London for our Who told you that? series for 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘴 Book.

We are all birth educators. Every story we re-tell and experiences we share and every image of birth we absorb helps shape someone else’s perception of what birth can be.

But imagine what might we already know instinctively without the horror stories and the endless images of a woman in labour screaming on her back…

These young women reminded us that perhaps we know more than we realise.

Let’s keep talking about birth. You can read about Oxytocin, the stories we absorb and how to make birth beautiful in my book.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘴 Book is available online and in stores now. 🔗 in bio.

We ❤️ Daddy Doulas!

On Father’s Day, we celebrate the dads who show up for their partners especially in birth. Learning, supporting, advocating, staying calm and connected, and reminding Mum just how powerful she is.

This year’s Daddy Doula did all that and more.

This years Daddy Doula is - Paddy! Daddy to little Finn and brilliant support to mum Hannah. Together they attended our Masterclass with and read the 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘴 book, preparing as a team for the birth of their baby.

Paddy stayed right beside Hannah. Supporting her and advocating when needed. Trusting her strength and helping protect the sacred space of birth.

Their story is such a beautiful example of what birth preparation can create between partners. Education is not just more information, but a road map. It gives confidence, connection and a shared understanding of how to work together when it matters most.

Happy Father’s Day, Paddy! Congratulations on being our 2026 Daddy Doula ❤️

L A B O U R P A I N - Where does our attitude to pain actually come from? Every person has their own unique attitude to pain and their own ideas around how they want to manage it.

Worth sitting with: how many of those ideas were formed by us, and how many were absorbed from birth scenes we grew up watching or hearing through the stories others shared?

A labouring woman flat on her back, always screaming and writhing in pain.

That position itself is worth questioning. Lying down for birth was never about what a woman's body needs, not from physiology.

Pushing a baby uphill against gravity, fixing the sacrum to the bed - none of that is tuning into the body and the flow of birth.

But what if it could be different? What if you knew there were proven methods to work with your body instead of against it?

The most important thing, the She Births book reminds us, is to tune into your body, your own sense of limits and possibilities. Birth is about so much more than birthing a baby. The inner work is just as rich and important and helpful.

She Births: Your Practical Guide to a Beautiful Birth will allow you to understand the sensations of birth and work with the pain, to trust physiology.

Plus She Births is proven to reduce the need for EPIDURALS by 65% (when compared to standard hospital birth education.) Our tools and techniques, plus our guidance with preparation and mindset actually WORK.

She Births is a guide to help you meet whatever birth brings you.

Did you know that - The UK has 22 mother and baby psychiatric units. France has 17. Australia has 7. India has 1. The USA has zero.

Right now the Lindsay Clancy trial is forcing a global conversation about postpartum psychosis, postnatal depression and maternal mental health — a woman prescribed 13 different psychiatric medications in four months, turned away twice by a su***de crisis hotline.

This is not a story about a bad mother.

It is a story about a perinatal mental health system with gaps women fall through.

More than 30% of women describe their birth as traumatic. 1 in 5 mothers experience a perinatal mental health condition. Postpartum psychosis is rare — around 1–2 in every 1,000 — but it is a psychiatric emergency.

Australia has just launched a Senate inquiry into women’s postpartum health — sparked by Senator Marielle Smith who shared her own story of breastfeeding difficulties and postnatal anxiety.

In 20+ years of this work I’ve known three women with postpartum psychosis — the same threads: lack of support, traumatic pregnancy, traumatic birth, an unasked history. Lack of timely follow up and lack of postpartum support.

Postpartum care needs to be much longer, and it needs to start BEFORE birth. We all need to be better educated and supported in pregnancy, as well as postpartum, to help make a real difference. We need to begin upstream. One woman can never be a whole village.

The best resource I know of, apart from the She Births book and course, is the award winning WITCHES documentary by

Watch Witches by Elizabeth Sankey, on MUBI. I reference her film in my book also.

Tell me how you feel about the Clancy case, the Australia wide Parliamentary inquiry.

How was your postpartum and what did you need more of ?

Nature is medicine 🌻 It heals on a physical emotional and spiritual level. More than we know more than we can see.

All the beauty on wonder we need to help regulate our nervous systems, Boost our oxytocin, get better sleep, lower your cortisol, reduce anxiety and just take a break form the bombardment of whatever is on our screens is outside. 📵

Its the reason we need to touch grass…. I’m going out now. Who’s coming with?

You can read more about why I think the act of slowing down and getting outside as well as dancing, swimming and gentle movement gets us into flow state in pregnancy (and always) and will help you get in touch with your body, your baby and gain insight and clarify intention for the birth and parenting journeys.
