Today we were having so much fun at our morning activity session down at The Boonah Community Drop In Center, that we totally forgot to take photos of our creations - this week the crew started making lolly jars …. But! We do have photos of some fantastic aprons made by Ms C🤩

Ms C turned up this week with handmade craft aprons for everyone - she is a whiz with a needle and thread and wanted her Wednesday morning craft buddies to all have aprons - how wonderful are they !?

Some lovely friendships have developed at our Wednesday craft sessions and today seeing Ms C come through the door with hand sewn gifts for everyone really made our day 🌻

Today we are celebrating International Assistance Dog week 🐾

As dedicated animals lovers we know the benefits that any animal can provide to anyone - physically, mentally and emotionally …. Assistance Dogs though are in a league of their own - trained professionals when it comes to guiding, assisting and providing crucial alerts to people living with a disability.

Thankyou to the trainers, breeders and the four legged heroes 🙏🤩🦮

QDN celebrated Assistance Dog Day (4 August). International Assistance Dog Week is from 3 August – 9 August and shines a light on service dogs and their trainers.

The impact these highly trained canines have on the lives of people with disability is life changing. From guiding people who are blind or have low vision, to alerting to medical emergencies, these dogs perform essential tasks that foster independence and companionship.

Guide Dogs Australia is one of the organisations that are training assistance dogs in Queensland. Click on the following link to see their activities:

There are some wonderful folks in this community, and we are incredibly grateful to be surrounded by them.🥰

Behind the scenes there are people working tirelessly, volunteering their time, donating, raising funds, doing what they can to lend a hand to those doing it tough 🤝

Australia continues to face a significant cost-of-living crisis. The lasting impacts of COVID, overseas turmoil, and natural disasters are driving record-high housing costs and escalating the price of everyday essentials including clothing, personal care, food, energy, healthcare, and fuel 🌀

At The Boonah Community Drop in Center, Cherie and her team are passionate about building connections that bring together the many organisations and individuals already making a real difference. 💛

We are so pleased to have been able to connect with the lovely folk at Cuppa PLUS Inc., a Scenic Rim support organisation that aims to reduce social isolation. Through this partnership Cuppa Plus will also be distributing some emergency relief vouchers from The Boonah Community Drop In Center.

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING 👇

👉 Next Thursday 6th August, Cuppa Plus have very kindly offered to run a stall in the Boonah High Street from 9.30am to 12noon. They will be selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the Boonah Drop In Center to help us purchase a new gas oven for the community kitchen.

👉 Following the stall in the High Street, Cuppa Plus will then be heading to the Drop In Center from 12.30pm to 2pm to distribute Emergency Relief vouchers.
$20 vouchers will be available to be used for fuel, groceries and meat. Cuppa Plus have put together these vouchers with support from the businesses in our local community to support those who need it most, with the intention that a circular economy is supported and the vouchers are spent in and around Boonah - Kalbar, Aratula, Rathdowney areas.

👉 Going forward, after next Thursday Cuppa Plus will be visiting the Boonah Community Center on the first Thursday of every month with $20 Emergency Relief Vouchers to distribute - from 10am - 1.30pm

Awesome Support Worker Catherine sent us these pics a few days ago - Miss C enjoying a beautiful afternoon in our beautiful Scenic Rim….. it was only a few days later that we realised that this day was International Self Care Day 🥰

Miss C chose to visit the lake and simply enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, beautiful scenery …. taking in all the beauty of nature - an absolute treat for all the senses 🌻

Miss C and Support Worker Catherine both agreed it was a picture - perfect day 👌

Miss C’s thoughts of the day ….."so peaceful,so relaxing, I could go to sleep. I've had a really good day"🌟

….. and this we think, is a perfect example of Self Care 💛
