June is peak flu season in Victoria, and influenza can lead to serious illness — particularly for older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people living with certain medical conditions.

The maternal RSV vaccine (Abrysvo®) is now available all year-round under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for eligible pregnant women.

Vaccination is recommended during each pregnancy from 28 weeks gestation to help protect newborns from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) during their first months of life.

Maternal RSV vaccination helps transfer protective antibodies to your baby during pregnancy, providing passive protection for up to 6 months after birth.

The RSV vaccine is recommended for:
✔ Pregnant women from 28 weeks gestation
✔ Including pregnant women under 18 years of age
✔ Vaccination ideally before 36 weeks gestation

Protection is significantly reduced if a baby is born less than 2 weeks after vaccination, so earlier vaccination during the recommended timeframe is encouraged.
