Where train? Turns out the Perth-Kal arvo train leaves at 2:05pm not like the weekdays 3:15!!! I got a late check out at twelve to stretch out and pack to leave myself lots of time till the train left.

My own fault for not double checking the times on the ticket but in my defence I’ve slept about 4 hours of the last 72 from nerve pain🤣. The train mob were great they managed to get me on tomorrow arvos train so I’ll find somewhere to park up tonight and try again tomorrow!

I’m surprised they left without me because to transport someone in a wheelchair they have to take out 2x2 seats and change ramps, strap them down etc so I’m surprised nobody stepped into the terminal to let me know before they left as they usually mark off and triple check the passenger manifest! I’ll be on the platform bright and early tomoz so I can go sleep in my own bed after this trip!!!

The ultimate in accessibility machines!!! Magic Mobility’s XT4. One day I’ll be upgrading from their V6 Frontier that’s so far given me five years of faithful service around the busted up streets of Kalgoorlie-Boulder & beyond! It’s capable in its own right but as a midwheeldrive chair I’ve bogged it a couple of times on my travels into the bush around town. I can’t wait till I get the ability to safely venture further from the beaten path in search of new adventures without risking getting stuck somewhere alone!

Imagine travelling for seven hours, checking into your hotel, unpacking your luggage (which is no small task when disability means you can't travel light), only to discover the room isn't actually accessible.

That's exactly what happened to Morgan yesterday after arriving in Perth for multiple appointments.

Due to a miscommunication, the room he'd been allocated had doorways that were too narrow for his wheelchair and he couldn't get into the bedroom or the bathroom. Unfortunately, the hotel had no other accessible rooms available for several days, so he spent the night sleeping in the lounge room while trying to sort out another option.

Tonight Morgan is moving to a different hotel that we've never stayed at before. We're hoping everything is genuinely accessible and that there are no more unexpected hurdles.

It's a reminder that "accessible" can't be an assumption. For many people, it's the difference between having a safe, functional place to stay and not being able to use the room at all.

Morgan and I had my work Christmas party last night. It’s always fun to get out and about but taxi services in Kalgoorlie definitely need to be looked at. Currently, there is only one wheelchair taxi that is also used as a maxi taxi for large groups. We booked a pick up for 5:30pm and it didn’t come. Finally after multiple phone calls, we were collected at 6:10pm as we were told the driver was on other jobs.

When we were ready to leave the christmas party, the wheelchair taxi stops collecting customers after 8pm (because obviously disabled people are not allowed to leave their homes after dark 🙄) so this meant Morgan and I had to walk 4km back home at 11:30pm at night. As we were out at an event, we had none of his supplies so we couldn’t get a normal taxi and Morgan transfer to that.

For a town of Kalgoorlie’s size and population, surely we deserve more than 1 wheelchair taxi and a 24/7 service.
