Shining the spotlight on the 2026 achievements of long-term client ! Some of you may know Vikki has been an ultra-trail runner for over 10 years. โUltra-runningโ refers to any running event that exceeds the standard marathon distance of 42.195 km (26.2 miles). She also works a physically and mentally demanding job in the medical industry (including overnight shifts), and is an amazing โGrammyโ to 4 lovely grandchildren ๐๐๐ผ.
In February Vikki flew to New Zealand to complete her second Tarawera 100km event (actually 102km with a total elevation gain/loss of 2,300m). What is normally a stunning course unfortunately turned into a full-on mudfest due to an influx of rain in the lead up. Vikki said it was the most muddy, wet conditions she had ever experienced, and after the 42km point it was often impossible to run. Race organisers had to pivot quickly, with ropes put into some of the steeper hills to ensure participants could safely make it up and down. Despite disappointment at it not being the race she hoped for, Vikki smashed it out in under 20 hours, which is a fantastic time even without the challenging conditions.
In May, she flew to the Blue Mountains to complete her second 100km for the year at Ultra Trail Australia, one of the biggest trail events in the Southern Hemisphere. Her event this year was again the 100km (104.4km to be exact) - with over 4630m of elevation gain/loss, and featuring over 8500 stairs! After getting along at a cracking pace and well on her way to a killer finish time, hyponatraemia set in around the 70km mark - a medical condition where the sodium level in your blood drops below the normal range. Needing medical attention and under strong advisement to withdraw given the serious health risks of further salt depletion, Vikki made the tough decision to pull out at this point. Still an amazing achievement running 71.65km including many thousands of metres of elevation gain and loss, plus stairs!
