The Protect Our NDIS Alliance has announced that Tomorrow there will be another National Day of Action.

This will be our chance as a community to publicly voice our concerns about the proposed NDIS changes before the senate inquiry deadline on the 14th of August.

There will now be 6 events held around Australia in which you can participate.

Sydney/Gadigal: 10am AEST, Town Hall

Brisbane/Magan-djin/Meanjin: 1pm AEST, Queens Gardens

Melbourne/Naarm: 2pm AEST, City Square

Hobart/Nipaluna: 2PM AEST, Franklin Square

Perth/Booloo: 1PM AWST, Forrest Place

Adelaide/Kaurna Country: 11AM ACST, Parliament House

I plan to be at City Square in Melbourne tomorrow to show my support and would love to see you there.

If you are unable to attend in person, however, would like to show your support, there are many other ways you can do so including following Protect Our NDIS Alliance, having a look at the resources on their Linktree: linktr.ee/ProtectOurNDIS or reaching out to them to organise an event closer to home.

There are many aspects to this proposed bill that are concerning and present real life threatening risks for many Australians with a disability.

These proposed changes have already affected thousands of Australians' lives and the bill hasn't even been passed by the senate yet.

Is the current NDIS perfect? no, however these proposed changes are not the way forward.

The government needs to consult with people with lived and professional experience in the sector before making drastic changes that affect our lives.

Tomorrow lets make those in charge listen and realise how many people their decisions affect.

When I travel for work I often find myself with time at the airport so sometimes choose to explore the accessibility facilities on offer.

A few weeks ago I was excited to learn that Cairns Airport has a quiet room available so I decided to have a look, however I was surprised by what I walked into.

It is great to see Airports starting to introduce spaces like these, however people with disabilities need to be consulted with during the design process to ensure they are fit for purpose.

A space designed to make the airport experience more accomodating to neurodivergent travellers should be a comfortable and welcoming space. It should not use harsh florescent lights or feel as though you are being hidden away in a broom closet.

I was fortunate that Cairns Airport was not very busy at the time of my flight so I was able to find another quiet space to sit in the terminal, however this is a great reminder of how important lived experience is when designing spaces and services for people with disabilities.

Today I had the pleasure of speaking at the Cairns Disability Support Worker Conference.

I was invited to share my intersectional experience as an LGBTQIA+ autistic and provide advice on how to support people with disability who have intersectional experiences.

I would like to thank ARC Disability for organising this fantastic event for local support workers and for allowing me to talk about such an important topic.

I hope those in attendance were able to walk away with something they can apply in their work.

Next month I will be presenting at the Cairns Disability Support Worker Conference on the topic of intersectionality. Lived experience is at the centre of everything I do, which is why I want to ensure lived experience will be at the very heart of my presentation.

If you identify as part of an intersectional community, I would love to hear about your lived experience. Your insights will assist me in providing support workers with practical information about how to support clients with intersectional identities.

All information you provide will be deidentified for the presentation to protect your privacy.

Who Can Participate:
We are looking for input from people within intersectional communities who identify as:

ARC Disability

Tuesday night was devastating as we saw the government proceed to table the idea of cutting funding to the NDIS.

This is a challenging time to be an Australian with a disability, as the government and wider community continue to debate what our lives should look like, with very little input from those of us who these decisions will affect.

I do not oppose NDIS reform, however I and many others do oppose cuts to the funding and supports that thousands of Australians rely on to live their lives.

After Tuesday night many understandably feel defeated, however there is still hope to stop these cuts. The budget and legislation relating to changes to the NDIS still have to pass through the houses of Parliament, where they can be blocked and amended.

If you also oppose these changes and want to show your support for the disability community, please speak up. Contact your local MP regarding these changes, share posts from disability advocates and organisations and/or sign the petitions below.
