Helen Eason Physiotherapy

Helen Eason Physiotherapy Helen Eason Physiotherapy provides oncology rehabilitation, lymphoedema and Lipoedema management

Helen Eason Physiotherapy is the forefront of expert oncology rehabilitation and lymphoedema / lipoedema management. With 20 years experience, lymphoedema training at Masters level, and a registered member of the APA, ALA and NLPR you can be assured that you are in expert hands. Helen Eason Physiotherapy was founded to empower cancer survivors to recover their quality of life as quickly as possibl

e by providing post surgical, chemotherapy and radiotherapy rehabilitation with lymphoedema risk assessment, prevention, monitoring and management. Helen also works with primary lymphoedema and lipoedema sufferers. With each client she works to form an individualised programme to maximise recovery and to regain former physical fitness and quality of life. Helen has trained in the fill and flush technique of medical lymphatic drainage, the most evidence based, time and cost effective method of MLD. Helen holds a Counselling certificate and incorporates counselling skills and motivational techniques where appropriate. Helen has also attained a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine ensuring accurate diagnosis of your pain and movement issues. She uses state of the art equipment (perometry and bioimpedence) within your assessment. This is the same equipment used at Mercy Health and Monash Health so your measurements are transferrable to the public hospital lymphoedema clinics if required. Many hospitals are unable to provide best practice physiotherapy services for cancer patients. If no pre operative limb measurements are taken, early diagnosis of lymphoedema after surgery or radiotherapy is not always achievable. Helen offers guaranteed gap free limb measurements pre and post operatively / post radiotherapy to ensure more patients can gain best practice within their care. Home visits are available where required ( with additional fees)

Helen regularly updates her skills and has spoken at Australian Physiotherapy Association, Australasian Lymphology Association, British Lymphology Society and International Lymphology Society conferences on best practice issues.

Lymphoedema Insights invited me onto their podcast to explore the role of compression therapy in lipoedema care for Lipoedema awareness month πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Have a listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to understand why I believe compression for Lipoedema requires an individualised assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, when compression may be appropriate, when it may be deferred, and how factors such as inflammation, pain, and metabolic health influence decision-making. I also discuss the impact of misinformation, particularly from social media, which critically impacts on patient understanding and engagement.

Thanks to Maree O'Connor for this opportunity to educate clinicians on what can be a challenging aspect of Lipoedema management.

I’m Stoked to get my fingers on one of these bad boys for submental lymphoedema management that I saw at the Australasian Lymphology Association conference - the tribute head and neck wrap for laryngectomy πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰With ear slits πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»and straps to increase pressure to problem areasπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ. It’s very comfortable and adaptable. Also foolproof application as the straps are labelled as to where they go πŸ†πŸ₯°. Non Laryngectomy version also available. Case studies about to commence to see what the patients think. Watch this space

Being with like minded clinicians and researchers at the Australasian Lymphology Association conference always lifts my energy and boosts my passion to advance everything lymphology. As this years event concludes I’m floating on cloud 9 after winning best research focussed presentation for my lymphscanner reliability study. I couldn’t have achieved this without the amazing support and teachings of Nicola Fearn, Liz Dylke and Haddenham Healthcare Limited Delfin Technologies

Disseminating research is so important to translate findings into clinical practice change. Condensing a tissue di-electric constant reliability study into a 12 minute presentation that clinicians can understand takes considerable time and effort. However, my efforts were worthwhile for the Australasian Lymphology Association conference when I looked out to a packed Concurrent session, elated at the ongoing interest in everything lipoedema.

I’m really proud that 4 out of the 5 presenters at the Australasian Lymphology Association conference Lipoedema session were past or present Lipoedema Australia board/advisory board members.
