Walking together for better mental health🚶‍♀️🧡

Last Sunday our team took part in Brisbane’s 5km Walk for Awareness, an annual event run by the Mental Awareness Foundation that brings the community together to raise awareness and support better mental health across the country.

We’re proud to have raised $3,000, placing 4th on the team fundraising leaderboard! A special shout-out to our admin team member, Hayley Schoch, who raised an incredible $2,527 and finished 2nd on the individual leaderboard. What an achievement!

To help raise funds before the walk our team decided to also collect eligible drink containers through Queensland’s Containers for Change scheme and put the 10-cent refunds towards our fundraising total. It was a great way to turn a simple everyday action into something that supports a cause close to our hearts.

The Walk for Awareness is a reminder of why these conversations matter. With 9 Australians lost to su***de every day, raising awareness, reducing stigma and making mental health support more accessible remains so important.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, fundraised and walked alongside us. We’re grateful to have been part of a cause that matters so much 🧡

OCD is more than being organised or liking things a certain way.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are recurrent, unwanted thoughts, urges or impulses that can cause significant distress. Someone may try to ignore, suppress or neutralise these thoughts, often by engaging in repetitive behaviours or mental rituals known as compulsions.

These compulsions may provide short-term relief, but the distress often returns.

Common obsessions can involve:
• Contamination
• Harm to yourself or others
• Violence or aggression
• Religious or blasphemous thoughts
• Sexual thoughts
• Doubts about safety or memory
• Order or symmetry

OCD can have a significant impact on someone's daily life, and the struggles aren't always visible to others. Understanding what OCD really looks like is an important step towards reducing stigma and helping people feel understood.

If you or your child are struggling with OCD, reach out to our friendly team to discuss support options.

There’s often more to caring for someone than meets the eye.

People might see the appointments, the everyday tasks and the time spent helping a loved one, but there’s often so much happening beneath the surface. The worry, the exhaustion and the challenge of balancing everyone else’s needs with your own.

More than 3 million Australians provide unpaid care to a family member, partner, child, friend, or older person. Behind every one of those carers is a person who needs care and support, too.

Sometimes, simply asking how someone is going, offering a helping hand or giving them a chance to talk can mean more than you realise.

Know someone who cares for others? Take a moment to check in on them and let them know they're appreciated, too. 💜

And if you're a carer who needs support yourself, we're always here to help. You deserve support, too.

Have you been putting off getting support for your mental health? 💜

Sometimes, we get so caught up in everything going on around us that we forget to look after ourselves, too. It's important to remember though your wellbeing matters, and you deserve to feel supported.

In this video, our founder, Gerda Muller, shares the vision behind The Psych Professionals and why, since opening our doors in 2007, we’ve been committed to helping people live the life they deserve.

If you have questions or aren’t sure where to start, we’re always happy to chat.

World Mental Health Day!

Lived experiences heard. Real voices. Real change.

Everyone’s experience with mental health is different. What we go through, what helps us and what we need can look completely different from someone else.

Today is a reminder to make space for those experiences and, most importantly, to listen.

So, check in with someone you care about today. Ask how they’re really going, and give them the space to answer. 💙

Ever caught up with someone and thought, “I didn’t realise how much I needed that.”

Sometimes a simple conversation, a laugh or spending time with someone can make a bigger difference than we realise.

This Queensland Mental Health Week, Build Community, Build Wellbeing reminds us that connection can be an important part of looking after our mental health.

With World Mental Health Day tomorrow, why not check in with someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with? They might need it too. 💙
