Before your first conversation with a disability support provider, here are 3 things worth considering:

Our team. One focus: getting support right.

An available room is only the beginning.

After a house inspection this morning, our team came together to discuss how we can prepare to support a new participant appropriately.

Before welcoming someone into a home, there is preparation behind the scenes from understanding their daily routines and preferences to reviewing staff experience, training needs and the home environment.

Our SIL, HR and housing teams, together with our Support Coordinators, each bring a different perspective to planning the right support. Where appropriate and with consent, this planning also involves the participant and relevant allied health or behaviour support professionals.

We take the time to ask the right questions, carefully review what is needed and put appropriate arrangements in place so our team is prepared to support the new participant.

Because choosing a home is about more than an empty bedroom. It’s about the person, the support they need and a team prepared to listen.

Through cupcakes, conversations and a little friendly crossword fun, we were reminded that checking in with someone can make a meaningful difference.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Simply asking “Are you OK?”, listening without judgement and staying connected can help someone feel seen, heard and supported.

R U OK? Day is an important reminder to pause, check in with the people around us and start meaningful conversations.

You don’t need to be an expert to ask someone if they’re OK—a simple conversation can make a real difference.

Last Friday, the FSA team had the opportunity to attend the community program “AI for Business Owners”, connecting with business owners and professionals to learn more about the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in everyday business operations.

Our GM, Hau Phan (Flora), joined the panel discussion and shared general examples of how AI can assist with routine business administration such as organising ideas, supporting planning and preparing first drafts with people remaining responsible for reviewing and finalising the work.

For FSA, the key message is that AI is a support tool, not a substitute for professional judgement, person-centred practice or decisions about supports. Any use of technology must be carefully considered and remain subject to privacy, confidentiality, information security, governance and existing compliance obligations.

It was also valuable to hear from Natalie Suleyman MP and other speakers about the changing role of AI and technology in Victorian businesses and communities.

Thank you to Mindtek, VietNews, VASIA and everyone involved in bringing this community learning opportunity together.

FSA will continue to learn and explore responsible, low-risk uses of technology while keeping people, quality, accountability and human oversight at the centre of our work.
