16 years ago I taught a group of 4yrs Pilates for the first time, completely underprepared.
I'd studied exercise physiology. I understood the adult body. I understood programming, progressive overload, rehab principles. None of it translated. Children aren't small adults, and nobody had taught me that.
What I didn’t realise was how intrinsically motivated kids are to move. Although, they are not.
Australian children are not even close to meeting the daily physical activity guidelines. Research suggests one of the key reasons is low motor competence. When children don’t feel confident moving, they’re less likely to participate in sport and physical activity, creating a cycle of inactivity that can persist into adulthood.
This is what is leading to shorter life expectancy, developmental vulnerability and increased chronic disease risk.
There was no practical training for clinicians wanting to work in paediatrics. No roadmap.
So I built the thing I wish I'd had.
This 5th September I'm bringing that training to Adelaide. 🩷
Registrations close 16th of August.
More soon.
