Ian Davies the Dentist

Ian Davies the Dentist I am a Dentist with over 23 years of experience. I am always researching the best, safest, biocompatible techniques and materials to achieve dental health.

The current experience due to COVID-19 has prompted me to create a page for my patients to contact me for advice and guidance about dental care. I am also sharing articles and information that I find interesting and relevant to dentistry and the health of my patients. Inspired by my own personal journey, my passions include dental health and how this links with whole body health. My own exploratio

n of happiness, wellbeing and mindfulness has also urged me to explore how I can help people manage their own anxieties about dental treatment and how I can create the best environment to engage will all my patients. I would like to use this page to share my journey with you.

Do you or someone you know suffer from dental anxiety? I am currently researching a promising new therapy for those who experience dental anxiety. Early results from the many who have already used this intervention completely, have resulted in excellent outcomes.

If you, or know someone you know, currently experiences dental anxiety then please follow the link to the website to be involved.

Background: I have been working in collaboration with Regina Rowlison and have developed an audiovisual intervention designed to reduce dental anxiety. This intervention is quick and easy to watch and can be used from home. We are now at the stage of formally testing this intervention and are running a large-scale study with the help of the University of Qld Dental School. We are aiming to have as many people involved as possible.

This intervention is to be used on a tablet, iPad or computer with headphones for optimum results.

Email [email protected] if you have further questions about the study, and I will provide more information about the study and how to be involved.

If it’s not in your mouth it needs to be in its container!

I have lost count of how many items I have replaced…stolen by the family dog. Dentures, mouth guards, splints, sleep devices and orthodontic retainers are fair game. Don’t be like this family...If you got them back would you wear them again?

Help for severe dental anxiety!

I am very excited to let you know that I am now looking for people to be involved in my “Dental Anxiety Therapy” pilot study. If you are really anxious about going to the dentist or if you know someone who is then please be involved or pass this invitation on.

The intervention is simple and easy to use and the whole process can be handled by email if required. The intervention is then yours to keep and continue to use after the study. I am very excited about being able to help people with this problem.

Please contact me through this page or send an email to me directly [email protected] for more information.

Great news!
The Australian Government has eased restrictions back to level 2. This means I can do examinations and cleaning again. I cannot do everything just yet, but it is certainly easier to sort out toothaches, fix broken teeth plus many other issues. More complex treatment is still restricted but we can now help most people with dental problems.
Kelly now knows she can have her wine and coffee over the long weekend without feeling guilty about those stains. I don't think she does anyway....

Some of you know that I have a special interest in helping people who experience dental anxiety. This comes from my own journey through meditation and wellbeing practices. It is a fabulous skill to be able to relax even when your surroundings may be far from relaxing. Maybe like a dental surgery???

I really try to make my room as chill as possible. Playing music, diffusing essential oils, and having a nice movie playing all help engage the senses in a positive way. If I am calm and composed, then I am hopeful you can sense that and also feel at ease.

I have been working on an intervention which can be used to help those with dental phobias or anxiety. I have recently just received research approval to test this on volunteers who experience these issues. I am very excited to get this study up and running and will keep you updated on developments. Jason Armfield in South Australia has been a very helpful advocate and his background in researching dental anxiety is considerable.

What do I do about mouth ulcers?

These are painful and super annoying. Its normal for them to pop up in times of stress or when your immune system is down. Any ulcer that does not heal within two weeks should be checked by a dentist. While it is healing try using a topical anaesthetic gel such as SM-33 or Difflam mouth gel. Both readily available at the local pharmacy.

Plain old salty water used as mouth rinse is also great. You can use Savacol mouthwash but do not use for more than a week or you’ll end up getting stains (like Kelly’s).
