DON'T TAKE THE RISK THIS SEASON. GET THE FLU VACCINE.
The flu (Influenza) is the most common vaccine-preventable disease in Australia. Although it can be a mild disease, it can also cause very serious illness in otherwise healthy people. It can require hospitalisation and can even cause death.
Peak flu season usually occurs from June to September. Optimal protection against influenza occurs within the first three to four months following vaccination. Vaccinating from April provides protection before the peak season.
If you belong to any of the categories below, you are eligible to receive a free flu shot each year:
• All people aged 6 months to less than 5 years
• All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
• Pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy)
• All people aged 65 years and over
• People aged 6 months and over with medical conditions which increase the risk of influenza disease complications.
Please note an interval of at least 14 days between a dose of influenza vaccine and a dose of COVID-19 vaccine is advised.
