When someone dies, there can be a lot to think about very quickly.
Who do you call? What needs to happen first? What decisions need to be made now, and what can wait?
Most families do not come into an arrangement knowing all of that — and they are not expected to.
Sometimes the first step is simply sitting down, talking through what has happened and understanding what comes next.
From there, decisions can be made one at a time, with guidance along the way.

Kind words for Jo in Wynnum. 🤍

We’re always grateful when a family takes the time to share their experience.

Jo brings so much warmth, care and compassion to the families she supports, and it means a great deal to see that reflected in such thoughtful feedback.

Thank you for trusting Jo to be there when it mattered most.

Community is more than simply working in an area.
It’s knowing the streets, the familiar places, the local stories and the people who make somewhere feel like home.
Our team lives and works across the same communities as the families we care for, and that connection matters to us.
Because being local isn’t just about where your office is.
It’s about being part of the place itself. 🤍

Celebrating one year of Ibby at McCartney Family Funerals. 🤍
Over the past year, Ibby has become a valued part of our team, bringing kindness, reliability and a positive presence to the people around her.
We’re grateful for the care and effort she brings to her role each day and for everything she contributes to the wider McCartney team.
Thank you for a wonderful first year, Ibby. We’re so glad to have you as part of the McCartney family.

It’s completely normal if you barely remember the funeral.

When someone you love dies, your brain is trying to process a huge amount at once — grief, shock, people, decisions, conversations and emotion.

That can affect your concentration and memory, which is why some people later realise they remember only small moments from the day.

A song.
A hug.
Something someone said.
A photo on the screen.

It doesn’t mean the day wasn’t meaningful.

Sometimes your mind simply holds onto what it can.

You read the same sentence three times.
Walk into a room and forget why.
Lose track of a conversation halfway through.
Grief can affect more than your emotions.
When your brain is dealing with stress, disrupted sleep, memories and the constant mental load of loss, there can be less attention available for everyday tasks.
That can make concentrating, remembering things or making decisions feel unusually difficult.
People sometimes call this “grief brain.”
It doesn’t mean you’re suddenly becoming forgetful. Your mind may simply be carrying much more than usual.
Sometimes understanding why it is happening can make it a little less unsettling. 🤍

A lovely day at the Forde Seniors Expo yesterday 🤍

Caz and Jane spent the day meeting plenty of wonderful people, having some great conversations and connecting with members of our local community.

We always enjoy opportunities like these to get out, meet people and be part of the communities we care for.

Last Wednesday, we were pleased to spend the morning with the ladies from Belmont Services Ladies Bowls Club, helping sponsor morning tea before a full day out on the greens. 🤍
It was a great chance to sit down, have a chat and enjoy some time with the local community before the competition got underway.
Thanks for having us — we loved being part of the morning.

A strong team is built on people who care. 🤍
The people who step in.
The people who notice the little things.
The people who support each other and make sure families feel looked after.
We’re incredibly grateful for the care, compassion and commitment our entire team brings to McCartney every day.
