Binging TikTok birth reels.
Create a pretty birth plan template.
An Instagram carousel saying “trust birth.”…
But then your choices go out the window the second someone in scrubs asks you why you’re making those choices … were they ever truly your choices ?!
Birth preparation is deeper than ‘my friend said I shouldn’t do that’ or copying a birth plan from a Facebook group.
It’s understanding:
• why you want what you want
• what your options actually mean
• what the benefits, risks and alternatives are
• and how to stay connected to yourself when things feel vulnerable, intense or unexpected.
I don’t want women blindly agreeing with everything.
But I also don’t want women blindly refusing everything because social media told them that’s what “empowered birth” looks like either.
True autonomy requires understanding.
Not just repeating what the algorithm fed you.
Informed decision making is about understanding your options fully so you can make decisions that genuinely feel right for you, your baby and your circumstances.
