More than Grades Mental Health of UQ Students is Flying Under the Radar. Click on the link to share your experiences

We are final year Occupational Therapy Master students, and we are engaging in a social change project. We are passionate about improving the mental health of UQ students, which is caused by many competing demands associated with completing university studies. Our aim is to implement a mental health module that is compulsory for all UQ students which will be completed at the beginning of each seme

ster through changing UQ’s mental health policy. Please join us in our fight to improve mental health for UQ students!

Here are some EXCITING updates for More than Grades

More than Grades Team Update:
As the semester is ending, this project for this social change course has also ended. Our team has worked hard to create this page and the content provided. I would like to thank Amelia, Nicole and Zoe for their great efforts and announce that they will be leaving More than Grades. I am excited to announce that they will be busy making a positive impact on people’s lives as OTs in the new year!
For myself, Suvendra, I will also be working as an OT in the new year but have decided to continue the initiative of More than Grades. I will be working closely with student services to try and create my vision to become a reality.

Letters to the Deans Update:
Shortly after we had sent the letters to the various faculty deans at UQ, we had received various responses. As a result, we were able to connect with student services to arrange a meeting.
On November 11th, I was given the opportunity to discuss our initiative. In this meeting, these were the topics that were discussed:
- Overview of initiative
- How the module could be accessible to students all semester long
- Potential content available
- How to promote this module and services
- Future action required to initiate the module

The outcome of this meeting resulted in promising actions towards creating a mental health module. To further support the creation of this mental health module, I will be posting a link soon to a survey. This will help us gather information about the potential content that would be included in the mental health module.

Check out this article from the Guardian that shares stories of student mental health at university.

The article states that they had to delete the call-out for students to share their stories after receiving 200 responses in 5 days.

If you can relate to any of the stories in this article, we would love to hear from you in our survey. Please find the survey link in our bio.

Together, we can improve the mental health of UQ students!

Did you know that it is a human right to have the ability to balance education responsibilities with other life responsibilities? However, for some, tertiary education is an all consuming aspect of their lives, causing their personality to be dampened through withdrawal from meaningful activities.

If you can relate to this, please answer our survey to help us campaign for the creation of a Mental Health Policy at UQ!
