Our Obstetricians, Gynaecologists and Sonographers are specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecological ultrasound. They are passionate about providing excellent service in women's ultrasound and utilise high end ultrasound equipment to provide quality care.

Part 4 of our fertility ultrasound series: specialist procedures SIS and HyFoSy. 🔬

When a standard scan isn't providing the answers you need about your fertility, you may need further investigation.

Our in-house medical team of doctors will perform these two specialist procedures if needed: saline infusion sonohysterography (SIS) or hysterosalpingo-foam sonography (HyFoSy). If you have a HyFoSy at QUFW, our Doctors will perform an SIS at the same time to give you as much information as possible.

This week is Jean Hailes for Women's Health Week. Their message: fuel, move, rest, breathe, connect. Simple ways to give your health priority.

For anyone living with endometriosis or ongoing pelvic symptoms, that permission matters. It can mean not writing off pain as normal, and asking for the scan or referral that gets you real answers.

Only 3.3% of government research funding in 2023–24 went to women's health (Monash University, 2025), leaving conditions like endometriosis and gynaecological cancers overlooked.

If you want to support women’s health research and advocacy, there are two organisations we support doing something about it. The Cherish Women's Cancer Foundation, funding gynaecological cancer resarch and QENDO Australia, advocating for people affected by endometriosis, PCOS and pelvic pain. We encourage you to look into these organisations and support the amazing work that they do 🙌

Meet our QUFW Co-Director Associate Professor Dr Rob Cincotta, Obstetrician & Maternal Fetal Medicine Subspecialist at QUFW.

Dr Cincotta has spent his career caring for women through complicated pregnancies. From pioneering a laser treatment for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome in Australia to co-founding QUFW.

He now spends his days as our subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine, bringing expert insight to complex prenatal diagnoses and fetal therapy. The support Dr Cincotta provides to our patients and sonographers is invaluable.

The cervix has one of the harder jobs in pregnancy. It has to stay firmly closed for nine months, then open completely.

Cervical insufficiency is when it can't stay closed through the second trimester. It usually happens without pain or warning, which is why it's picked up on ultrasound rather than through symptoms. 🔍

At the 20–22 week scan, cervical length is measured. Knowing early means there are options to help reduce the risk of an early birth.

Vasa praevia is a condition where ultrasound can genuinely change the outcome of a pregnancy. It can be silent, and the only thing standing between a safe, planned birth and a preventable tragedy is early diagnosis in experienced hands.

With an antenatal diagnosis, the baby's chance of survival is 98.6%. Without one, it falls to 72.1% (Zhang et al., 2021), published in Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
