At East Vision Optometry, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a part of our comprehensive approach to diagnosing & managing eye conditions. OCT is a completely non-invasive imaging technique that uses light waves to photograph detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, optic nerve, and other important internal eye structures.

This technology allows us to:
- Detect early changes associated with glaucoma
- Evaluate axial length in patients with progressive myopia
- Monitor progression or early signs of macular degeneration
- Identify diabetic retinopathy
- Assess optic nerve health

OCT provides us with crucial information which helps to make timely, evidence-based decisions for your ocular health. Contact our team on (07)35588818 to discuss how OCT fits into your personalised eye health monitoring plan.

Living in Brisbane means beautiful sunshine year-round, but it also means higher exposure to harmful UV rays. Just like your skin, your eyes need protection too.

Long term UV exposure can contribute to conditions like pterygium, a growth on the white of the eye that may become red/irritated, and cataracts, where the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy over time, leading to blurred or dim vision.

The good news is that protecting your eyes is simple! Make sure your sunglasses are Category 3 and offer 100% UV protection to handle our bright Queensland conditions, and remember, UV is still present even on cloudy days!

Struggling to see clearly both near and far? You’re not alone.

As we age, our eyes naturally lose the ability to focus up close—hello, presbyopia. Suddenly, reading that restaurant menu or scrolling through your phone feels like a hassle.

But don't worry! Multifocal contact lenses are a game changer. Multifocal contact lenses are a great alternative to glasses and are designed to correct vision at multiple distances. They use a special optical design with multiple prescription zones in one lens. As your pupil naturally adjusts, your eye learns to focus through the part of the lens needed for distance and near vision. This means you can have seamless vision at all ranges, without having to switch between glasses.

At East Vision, we take a clinical approach to contact lens fitting, carefully assessing your eye health, tear film quality, visual demands (work, driving, screens), and lifestyle needs. If you are curious if multifocal contacts could work for you, book a comprehensive contact lens consult with our team!

March 8-14th is World Glaucoma Week! Glaucoma is a group of related eye disorders, resulting in progressive damage to the optic nerve and loss of peripheral vision. During world glaucoma week, we’re reminding our community that glaucoma can progress silently, but early detection can protect sight.

During your comprehensive examination, we assess for glaucoma by checking eye pressure, examining the optic nerve, performing advanced retinal imaging, and testing your peripheral vision.

Family history is one of the strongest risk factors for developing glaucoma. If a parent or sibling has glaucoma, your risk is significantly higher. This World Glaucoma Week, we’re encouraging families to talk about their eye health history! So, if you or a loved one are due for an eye exam, we would love to see you! Preventative care today supports healthy vision for years to come.

Clear vision doesn’t always mean healthy eyes. Is your eye health up-to-date? Schedule your yearly check! 👁️

Sharp vision is just one part of your overall ocular health. Many serious eye conditions develop silently without noticeable symptoms in their early stages.

A comprehensive eye exam involves both checking the vision and assessing the structures of the eye to detect conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and retinal tears. These conditions can sometimes start to develop without any significant changes in vision. That’s why a comprehensive eye exam is more than just a vision test.

Even if your vision is stable, regular eye exams are key to preserving long term eye health. Schedule your comprehensive exam today.
