A lot of men carry stress quietly.

Work pressure.
Family responsibilities.
Feeling disconnected or overwhelmed.

The truth?
You’re not the only one.

In Australia, most men experiencing anxiety or depression do reach out in some way, with over 80% connecting with a GP each year.

That might be a quick check-in. A conversation that starts small. Or a first step toward more support.

The shift is happening:
✔ More conversations
✔ More awareness
✔ Less stigma

You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming.
Talking early makes a difference.

Next week is Men’s Health Week (9–15 June).

Strength isn’t pushing everything down.
It’s recognising when something feels off and doing something about it.

In Australia, around 1 in 5 men experience a mental health challenge each year and more men than ever are choosing to talk about it.

Mental health is part of your health.
Looking after it is not a weakness, it’s a skill.

This week, we’re opening the conversation.

🌍 Today is World Mental Health Day 🌍

Today is a reminder that mental health is part of all of our lives.

Australia is recognised internationally for its mental health awareness, research and advocacy, yet many Australians still experience anxiety, burnout, loneliness and emotional exhaustion behind closed doors.

In Australia:
• 42.9% of Australians will experience a mental health disorder at some point in their lifetime
• Women report higher rates of anxiety and psychological distress than men
• Men are often less likely to seek early mental health support despite significant emotional pressure
• Young Australians are reporting rising levels of distress and disconnection

Being emotionally overwhelmed does not mean you are failing.
Seeking support does not mean you are weak.
And needing care is not something to apologise for.

May today remind us to keep creating emotionally safe spaces in relationships, workplaces, families and communities, where people feel less alone in what they carry. 💛

World Mental Health Day is coming

Australia is often seen as a world leader in mental health awareness, advocacy and research. More Australians are talking openly about therapy, emotional wellbeing and seeking support than ever before.

And yet, many people are still struggling quietly.

In Australia:
• Around 25% of women experienced a mental health disorder in the past 12 months
• Around 18% of men experienced a mental health disorder in the past 12 months
• Anxiety disorders remain the most common mental health concern across Australia
• Nearly 45% of young women aged 16–24 experienced a mental health disorder in a 12-month period

These numbers remind us that mental health challenges are deeply human - not rare, not shameful, and not something people should carry alone.

This week is an invitation to slow down and check in:
💛 With yourself
💛 With your loved ones
💛 With the parts of you that may be carrying more than others can see

Support matters.
Connection matters.
And conversations matter.

Wedding planning often focuses on one day. Marriage preparation focuses on the decades that follow.

Important conversations include:
💛How do we handle conflict?
💛What role will family play?
💛How do we manage money?
💛Do we want children?
💛What helps each of us feel loved and supported?

Premarital counselling helps couples build strong foundations before challenges arise.

After betrayal, many couples ask: “Is this repairable?”

The honest answer? Yes, but rebuilding trust requires intentional work.

Healing often involves:
• Full accountability
• Honest transparency
• Understanding the deeper relationship patterns involved
• Creating emotional safety
• Consistent follow-through over time

Healing isn’t easy, but repair is possible.

Mothering is a verb, not a noun. 💛

This Mother’s Day, we honour the many ways care, love, safety, guidance and nurturing show up in the world.

To mothers.
To stepmothers.
To grandmothers.
To foster and adoptive mothers.
To aunties, carers and chosen family.
To those longing to be mothers.
To those grieving mothers.
To those mothering while carrying their own wounds.
To the people doing the quiet, unseen emotional labour every day.

Mothering is found in the comforting, the listening, the showing up, the protecting, the teaching and the loving.

Today, we celebrate all who nurture others in all the forms that takes.

And if today feels complicated, tender or painful for you, you are not alone in that too.

Happy Mother’s Day from Lighthouse Relationships Psychology & Counselling 💛

Many neurodiverse couples come to therapy feeling deeply misunderstood.

One partner may feel ignored. The other may feel constantly criticised.

Different communication styles, sensory needs, executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation differences, and burnout can all impact relationships.

But difference doesn’t mean incompatibility.

With greater understanding, practical tools, and reduced shame, relationships can become safer and stronger.

We offer neurodiversity-informed relationship support.
