I have received my certification as a Compassion Inquiry Practitioner, Dr Gabor Mate's teaching, the result of a deep process of training and clinical practice that has been both challenging and profoundly transformative https://compassionateinquiry.com/directory/alpha-ponce/

This journey included:

• An extremely intensive one-year online professional training program

• 27 biweekly 2-hour small group sessions, No holidays.

• More than 65 hours of theoretical teaching

• 24 hours of facilitation

• 6 months in the mentorship program

• A total of 100 hours of supervised clinical practice

• Process of Certification

Beyond the hours and requirements, this process has represented a true integration of personal and professional life.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this learning journey, and to every person who trusts me to accompany them in their healing process.

I remain committed to continuing to grow, learn, and deepen into tools that allow me to serve with greater humanity and care.

There are moments in life that stay with you forever.
Meeting Peter Levine was one of those moments for me.

I feel deeply grateful to have met this living legend whose work has profoundly shaped the way I support people healing from trauma. His understanding of the nervous system, trauma, and the body’s innate capacity to heal has not only transformed the therapeutic world but also touched the lives of so many people through the work of therapists worldwide.

Somatic Experiencing Somatic Experiencing International has deeply influenced my practice and the way I hold space for my clients with more presence, compassion, slowness, safety, and trust in the wisdom of the body.

It was truly an honour to be in his presence, to learn from him, and to witness the humanity and gentleness behind his work.

Feeling inspired, humbled, and incredibly thankful. Thanks Restoring Resilience for organising this.

If you feel the need to over-explain so you won’t be misunderstood, it’s not a flaw.

It’s a protective habit your nervous system learned when being misunderstood once carried real consequences a way to stay safe, seen, and connected.

Healing isn’t about silencing this part, but learning you can be respected, understood, and safe without over-explaining.

You do not have to carry this alone forever.

If this pattern resonates, curiosity can be a compassionate first step.

So much of what shapes us doesn’t live only in our thoughts. It lives in our bodies, in how we learned to relate, protect, adapt, and stay connected when connection didn’t always feel safe.

Relational and somatic psychotherapy offers something different from insight alone. It offers a lived experience of being with another person in a way that is attuned, consistent, and responsive.

Over time, these moments matter. They create space for trust to grow, for boundaries to be felt, and for new ways of relating to take shape; not by revisiting the past, but by staying present with what unfolds now in your mind and body.

If you’re considering this kind of work, support is available here when you’re ready.

When your body holds more activation than it can manage, slowing down is an act of care.
If pausing feels unfamiliar, that’s normal. Many nervous systems have learned to stay alert just to survive.
Regulation often returns through rhythm, breath, and safe connection, not through force. Healing unfolds gradually, moment by moment.
As steadiness grows, protective responses can soften on their own.
You might allow yourself one small pause right now, just this one.

Protective responses develop when an experience overwhelms what can be held alone.

When something was too much, too fast, too painful, too confusing, and there wasn’t enough support to process it, your system adapted.

If this is how you learned to cope, it made sense at the time.

These patterns are not flaws.

They are evidence of your body’s effort to preserve connection and continuity, even in environments that felt unsafe, unpredictable, or emotionally lonely.

Healing doesn’t begin with force.
It begins when the nervous system feels safe enough to soften what has been tightly held for a long time.

With gentle awareness.

With an attuned, supportive relationship.

With compassionate pacing that honours your window of tolerance.

In that safety, unfinished survival responses can be completed in small, manageable ways.

Beliefs can be met with curiosity instead of shame.

And new responses, more flexible, connected, and grounded, can gradually emerge.

You do not have to carry this alone forever.

In narcissistic families, parents steal from the scapegoat child to feed the golden child — money, love, opportunities, attention, even their light.

The scapegoat is expected to carry the blame, the pressure, and the emotional weight of the entire household. Their achievements are minimized, their needs ignored, and their voice often dismissed. Meanwhile, the golden child is protected, praised, and elevated, even when they make mistakes. This imbalance isn’t accidental; it maintains control and keeps the family dynamic intact.

Over time, the scapegoat learns to survive on crumbs, questioning their worth while watching others receive what should have been shared equally. They are told they are “too sensitive” when they notice the unfairness, or “ungrateful” when they speak up. Yet, despite being overlooked, they often develop resilience, empathy, and strength that the golden child never had to build.

Eventually, the scapegoat begins to see the pattern. And once they do, they stop trying to win love that was never offered fairly, and start reclaiming the light that was always theirs.
