In a body that moves freely, the fascial compartments move in relationship with one another. They contain fluid and are surrounded by fluid, allowing the structures of the body to glide and adapt, supporting overall mobility and ease of movement.
Fascial tissue can be understood as a continuous, intelligent network throughout the body. It plays a role in communication and organisation within the system. In this way, the fluid environment supports coherence, connection, and resilience.
When the system is exposed to prolonged stress, traumatic experience, or physical impact such as injury or accident, the tissues may adapt by holding or “containing” that experience. This is sometimes referred to as containment.
In moments of strong nervous system activation, the quality of fluidity in the system can change, and patterns of tension or fixation may form. If the body is unable to fully process or release these patterns at the time, they may remain held within the tissue and contribute to ongoing discomfort, pain, or long-term dysfunction.
When there is a restriction in the fascia, surrounding tissues have less freedom to move and respond. The body then adapts around these patterns of restriction, rather than expressing in a fully integrated way.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy works with the fluid body. The subtle rhythmic motion of the system can offer information about where there may be restriction, compression, or reduced motility, supporting the body’s natural capacity to reorganise and return to greater ease.
