Do you find yourself rushing to the toilet, or leaking on the way? You’re not alone, and there’s more support available than you might think.

Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (TTNS) is a non-invasive treatment option for overactive bladder and bladder urgency that is showing really promising results. Research suggests it may be as effective as pelvic floor muscle training for managing OAB, and all it takes is 30 minutes of your day, with minimal side effects.

It can also be used alongside other conservative treatment options, including your osteopathic care, making it a great addition to a broader plan of care.

While TTNS can be self-administered at home, we strongly recommend working with a trained practitioner to make sure you’re getting the most out of it.

The teams at Pivot Osteopathy and Pregnancy and Beyond Osteopathy are here to help you feel more confident with your bladder.

📍 Kelvin Grove and located within Westside Osteo

Three pelvic floor exercises to help you prepare for birth.

Connecting with your pelvic floor is a vital part of birth preparation. These exercises are designed to help you build awareness, find relaxation, and create the space your body needs for labour.

1. The Bloom Breath (Red Flower Breath): This is all about mindful connection. As you inhale, visualise a red flower blooming and opening. As you exhale, imagine the petals gently closing.

2. Side Lying Hip Circles: A gentle way to find mobility in the pelvis. Focus on smooth, easy circles and keep your breathing natural.

3. Puppy Pose: This pose is wonderful for allowing your neck to relax and finding space in your torso. Focus on breathing into the back of your ribs.

Try to connect to your pelvic floor as you’re doing each movement. See below for what to do:

• 1st & 2nd Trimester: Bring your awareness to the natural movement of your pelvic floor with every breath.

• 3rd Trimester: (Or if you have symptoms of a tight pelvic floor) Focus on creating extra length and opening through the pelvic outlet with every breath.

By mindfully practicing these movements, you are helping the muscles inside and around your hips and pelvis feel supported and ready.

Four hip release exercises to help you prepare for birth

Tight hips are common during pregnancy, but finding ease and opening in this area is a key part of your birth preparation. These movements are designed to help you release tension and mindfully connect with your pelvic floor.

1. Low Lunge: A great way to sink deeper into a stretch. Remember to synchronise your movement with your breath as you flow forward and back.

2. Psoas Release: Target those deep hip flexors by allowing one leg to hang gently off the side of your bed or a table.

3. Supported Malasana (Deep Squat): Use a yoga block or a stack of books for support to help your body find a natural, easeful breath.

4. Sidelying Flexion: This is our go-to alternative to the deep squat if you are experiencing prolapse symptoms or p***c symphysis pain.

Connecting with your breath: No matter which movement you're in, bring your awareness to your pelvic floor.

• 1st & 2nd Trimester: Notice the natural movement that happens with every inhale and exhale.

• 3rd Trimester: Focus on creating extra length and a sense of opening through the pelvic outlet.

Mindfully breathing throughout these exercises helps relax the muscles inside and around your hips, preparing your body for the journey of labour.

Three of our favourite exercises to help you prepare for birth (All-Fours Edition).

Preparing for birth is just as much about learning to relax and open as it is about strength. These exercises are designed to help relax the muscles inside and around your hips and pelvis in preparation for labour.

1. Puppy Pose: A wonderful way to find space in your torso and allow your neck to relax. Focus on breathing into the back of your ribs.

2. Cat/Cow: This flow helps you synchronise movement with your breath. Visualise your sit bones going wide as you inhale.

3. Rock Back: A gentle movement to help un-tuck the pelvis and create length through the pelvic outlet.

A note on your breath awareness:

• 1st & 2nd Trimester: Bring your awareness to the natural movement of your pelvic floor with every breath.

• 3rd Trimester: (Or if you have symptoms of a tight pelvic floor) Focus on creating extra length and opening through the pelvic outlet with every breath.

Mindfully breathe throughout all these exercises to help your body feel supported and ready.

We are very sad to see her go as she has been such an amazing part of our team, but we're so excited that she's leaving us to welcome a new little person into the world.

Bailey, Sarah and Elizabeth are all available to see Becky's baby patients. And we are all here to support any of her pregnant and post-partum mummas.

Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our team Becky. We can't wait to meet your little one when they arrive.
