An initiative of the Holy Diocese of Brisbane, a spiritual talk will be presented on Sunday, 9 August, at 6:00pm at the Holy Church of St George. The talk will be delivered by Dr Sophia Theodoratos, who will present on the following topic:

‘Rebirth’ of Humanity into Life, with St Irenaeus’
According to the early Church Fathers, each of us is in a process of continual spiritual transformation, still becoming truly living human beings. This talk will highlight the early church imagery of the Most Holy Theotokos, in the second century writings of St Irenaeus of Lyons. St Irenaeus writes of humanity honouring ‘the enfleshing of the pure birth of the Word of God’, and seizing the ‘Antidote of Life’. According to Irenaeus we are all granted a ‘rebirth’ into life through the Passion. Irenaeus’ theological vision of a human being as the glory of God’s creation, being fashioned by the life-giving Word, Jesus Christ, and the life-making Spirit of God, provides intriguing insights for us today. What does it mean for us to become a ‘living’, ‘perfect’, and ‘spiritual’ human being, receiving ‘rebirth’ into eternal life?

We will be blessed to welcome our beloved spiritual Father, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and All Oceania, to Brisbane for a pastoral visit.

During his visit, His Eminence will preside over two joyous ordinations.

On Saturday, 18 July, at the Parish of St Paraskevi in Brisbane North, His Eminence will ordain Deacon Theophylactos to the Holy Priesthood. Deacon Theophylactos has faithfully served for the past five years in the offices of the Holy Metropolis of Limassol under the guidance of His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios, and has now been appointed to serve full-time at the Parish of St Paraskevi.

On Sunday, 19 July, at the Cathedral Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Mt Gravatt, His Eminence will ordain Mr Pandeleimon Angeli, a Brisbane-born graduate of St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College, to the Holy Diaconate.

These sacred ordinations are moments of great joy and thanksgiving, as the Church receives two devoted servants of God to serve the faithful of Queensland. We pray that God grants them many years of fruitful and grace-filled ministry.

His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane, together with the clergy and faithful of the Diocese, warmly thanks His Eminence Archbishop Makarios for his paternal love, guidance and ongoing support of the Holy Diocese of Brisbane.

Following both Divine Liturgies, a complimentary luncheon will be offered at the respective parishes, and everyone is warmly invited to attend and share in these blessed celebrations.

Winter Drive 2026 is underway!

The annual Winter Appeal for the St George Community Kitchen (Outreach Program) has commenced. As the colder months approach, we are once again coming together to support individuals and families in need within our wider community.

We are kindly seeking donations of new items only, including warm clothing, blankets, socks, non-perishable food items, and other essential goods. Gift vouchers and monetary donations are also greatly appreciated and will go directly toward purchasing additional food and essential items for those doing it tough this winter.

A full list of requested items can be found in the flyer below.

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps make a real difference during the winter season. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.

Donations can be placed in the marked collection containers located at the Church or at the GOC Centre/Office.

Thank you for your continued support, and please feel free to share this appeal with your family and friends.
