🌈 What a wonderful Term 3 it's been so far for Cairns Hospital Kindy!

Over the past few weeks, our youngest learners have embraced every opportunity to play, explore, create and connect. From singing songs and sharing favourite books to painting, printmaking, counting, building, creating sculptures and discovering the world through play, every session has been filled with joyful learning.

We've loved watching our little learners grow in confidence as they try new things, make choices, solve problems, and share their ideas. Every smile, giggle and moment of discovery reminds us that meaningful learning can happen anywhere - even during a hospital stay. ❤️🌟

Our children at the Early Education Program recently welcomed Bugs Ed.. to our space.
We got really close with amazing creatures! This interactive visit boosted our vocabulary, it enhanced our knowledge of the environment, and it perfectly matched our recent outdoor bug discoveries!

🤖 Cubelets STEM Challenge on the Ward! 🤖

Our Primary School students on the ward have been busy putting their engineering skills to work!
Royce, Anna and Evie began their Cubelets challenge by exploring and predicting. They investigated different Cubelets, made predictions about what each one might do, tested them out and recorded what they noticed. 🔍💭
Then came the really exciting part — designing and building their own robots! Each student planned which Cubelets they wanted to use, thought about the purpose of their robot and then put their ideas into action. 🧠⚙️
Of course, being an engineer also means testing, problem-solving and making improvements when things don't quite work the first time! The students experimented with different combinations, worked through challenges and had lots of fun seeing their ideas come to life. 🚀
We loved seeing the curiosity, creativity and persistence of our Primary students as they learned, explored and created right there on the ward. And there was certainly plenty of pride when those robots started moving! 🤖✨

🌟 Dot’s Crocheted Toys: Spreading Love One Toy at a Time 💛🌟
Today, we want to shine a spotlight on an incredibly generous and talented woman, Dot, from Casino. Dot has poured her time, love, and creativity into crocheting a collection of beautiful, soft toys for the children here at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Dot’s connection to our hospital school, is through her dear friend Zander, who receives a school service from our amazing Kindy Team. Zander’s parents, Chelsea and Rhyan, have shared with us just how much Dot’s kindness and thoughtfulness mean to their family.
Dot, your generosity is truly inspiring, and your beautiful creations are bringing smiles and comfort to so many children. On behalf of the entire Queensland Children’s Hospital School community, thank you for your kindness and for sharing your talents with us. 💛

Bees Return to Jacaranda Place!
Since Jacaranda Place first opened, the native stingless bees in the education garden have captivated staff and students alike. Sadly, around a year ago, the bees abandoned their hive due to a combination of factors. However, with the generous support of Melissa from Sydney Stingless Bees, a new hive has now been introduced. Melissa has kindly loaned us an established hive to house in our garden and shared her expertise with both staff and students during an engaging presentation about the vital role bees play in ecosystems and the fascinating inner workings of a hive. In preparation, the garden has undergone a revitalisation, featuring an abundance of flowering plants to provide a reliable food source for the bees. With the weather warming, we’re excited to see these incredible creatures flourishing once again!
