Our team has had a great couple of days in Christchurch NZ attending the ASSBI - Australasian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment Conference for 2026!

Lots of valuable knowledge was gained and connections strengthened with our colleagues working in brain injury rehabilitation. 💪

Collaboration and shared learning is how we move forward as better clinicians and enables better service provision to our client cohort.

Thanks to our valued colleagues at and for the discussions, inspiration and good times. 🧠

Our 6-week group memory program wrapped up yesterday. Thank you to all our participants! 🎉

This program focused on supporting people living with neurological conditions to better understand their memory and develop practical strategies to use in everyday life.

Across the 6 weeks, participants worked on building awareness, learning techniques to support memory and attention, and applying these strategies at home and in the community.

It’s always great to see the progress, confidence, and shared learning that comes from group-based rehabilitation. ⭐️

One of the best parts of being an OT is continuing to learn so we can better support our clients!! 🦼🦼

Three of our therapists recently attended a power wheelchair workshop put on by the amazing team at Power Mobility, where they learned about different types of power wheelchair devices, their different functions, and how they can support independence and community access for clients. The session also included hands-on practice with the devices and functions, giving our team valuable practical experience with different setups and features.

Opportunities like this help us build our knowledge and confidence when recommending mobility solutions that are tailored to each person’s needs.

Thank you to Power Mobility and Quantum Rehab for running such an informative and engaging session.

One of the main questions we get asked is: what actually is Occupational Therapy???

And honestly, it can be hard to answer in one sentence!

At its core, occupational therapy is about “occupations”… but these are not just jobs. In OT, occupations are the everyday activities that fill your time and give your life structure and meaning. They are the things you need to do, want to do, and are expected to do. This includes showering and cooking, working, driving, parenting, socialising, and participating in your community.

We look at whether someone can safely and independently take part in those activities. If something is getting in the way, whether that is cognitive change, fatigue, physical limitations, or environmental barriers, we work to address it. That might involve rehabilitation, skill development, adapting tasks, introducing strategies, adaptive equipment, or recommending supports.

When people cannot engage in meaningful activities, it often affects more than just their function. It can impact their identity, confidence, and overall wellbeing. Our role is to help restore balance, participation, and purpose.

Occupational therapy is practical. It is hands-on. It is focused on real life, and it is about supporting people to re-engage in the activities that matter most to them. 🌱

It has been another fantastic year working alongside such talented and caring OT's.

I am very grateful to have the support of the team as we move into 2026. We had a lovely evening at paint n sip and a team dinner to celebrate all things 2025.

Our team wishes everyone a restful Christmas period and happy and healthy start to 2026.

Ability OT is always working with our clients to achieve their functional goals.

Here Malo is trialing the Quadjoy - a mouth operated joystick / mouse input device made by QuadLIFE. It is designed for people who cannot use their hands or arms for typical mouse control. It uses a 'sip and puff' system to trigger clicks, scrolls and other commands.
