How does pregnancy affect a neurological condition, and how can physiotherapy help?

These were just some of the questions explored by our Women's Health Physiotherapists, Megan Bergman and Catherine Hayden, when they recently presented a national education session for the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) on pregnancy and the postpartum period in women living with neurological conditions. The session was very well received, highlighting the growing need for greater awareness and specialised care in this area.

For our patients, this means receiving care from physiotherapists who are actively contributing to the profession, staying up to date with the latest evidence and working collaboratively across women's health and neurological physiotherapy. Whether you're planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant or recovering after birth, our team can help you manage changing symptoms, stay active and prepare for every stage of your pregnancy and recovery.

Our Breast Cancer Care team is committed to continually building their knowledge to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Recently, Kate, Natalie and Emma attended the Oncology Scar Specialist Course, expanding their skills in assessing and treating scar tissue following breast cancer surgery and reconstruction.

This ongoing professional development helps ensure our patients benefit from the latest evidence-based approaches to improve mobility, reduce pain and tightness, and support recovery.

An evening well spent learning from Dr Yu Hwee Tan and her expertise in bladder pain. The session provided valuable clinical insights that will help our physiotherapists continue to deliver informed, evidence-based care for people experiencing complex bladder and pelvic pain symptoms. Thank you to QPPN for hosting such a worthwhile education event.

Many people know Peter Dornan as one of Queensland's most respected physiotherapists, with decades of experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, men's health, pelvic pain and pudendal neuralgia.

While Peter has stepped back from full-time clinical practice, he continues to play an important role within Active through ongoing mentoring and clinical education. Peter regularly works alongside our team, sharing his extensive knowledge and helping develop our clinicians' skills in the assessment and management of complex pelvic pain conditions, including pudendal neuralgia.

For our team, these mentoring sessions are an invaluable opportunity to learn from one of the profession's most experienced clinicians. For our patients, it means continued access to a service committed to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development.

We are grateful to have Peter continue to contribute to our team and help shape the next generation of physiotherapists at Active.

Did you know that bladder leakage, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic pain are common, but not a normal part of ageing?

Recently, Megan spoke with members of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland about pelvic health across the lifespan, helping raise awareness of symptoms that many women experience but often don't discuss.

The more we talk about pelvic health, the more women understand that effective treatment and support are available.
