🦴 Healthy Bones Action Week
Hip pain on weightbearing that doesn’t warm up with activity? Don’t forget to consider bone.
💡 Stress fractures and insufficiency fractures around the hip and pelvis can present like joint or soft tissue conditions — and are easy to miss if you’re not actively thinking about them.
🧠 When pain behaviour doesn’t fit the pattern, bone should stay on your differential.

🚨 **New Blog**

A sudden ""pop"" in the back of the thigh isn't always just a hamstring strain.

In this month's guest blog, Dr Anthony Nasser discusses an important injury for clinicians to recognise—**proximal hamstring avulsion**. 🦵

Tony will walk us through what an avulsion is (bony or tendon), when clinicians should suspect this injury, and what the highest-quality evidence tells us about management. The article also takes a close look at the landmark PHACT trial, examining whether surgery really provides superior outcomes and whether tendon retraction influences long-term recovery. 📚

If you manage patients with hamstring injuries, hip or buttock pain, this evidence-based review is well worth a read.

🦶 Still prescribing the same exercises for every foot & ankle patient?
Not all foot and ankle presentations need the same approach — and a one-size-fits-all rehab plan misses key drivers of dysfunction.
💡 This practical workshop focuses on building a more targeted clinical approach through:
• Foot posture assessment
• Intrinsic muscle function (often overlooked, yet often important)
• Extrinsic muscle strength and control
• Functional demands of the individual

Featured New Paper for July 2026.

This new paper looked at the association between labral pathology and cartilage loss over 2-3 years in high-impact athletes. MRI was used to detect presence of and change in chondrolabral pathology, in 173 soccer or Australian football players with and without hip/groin pain. There was an association between labral tear, paralabral cysts and the progression on cartilage pathology. The findings of this study suggest that labral tears together with other factors may contribute to cartilage loss in young adult athletes.

🦴 Did you know? Iliopsoas impingement after THR
Pain at the front of the hip after hip replacement isn’t always “just recovery irritation.”
💡 It often shows up when the hip flexors are loaded or stretched, such as:
• Lifting the leg (dressing, getting in/out of a car or bed)
• Walking upstairs
• Late stance phase of gait (hip extension) and into early swing phase
🧠 Recognising this pattern can help differentiate iliopsoas-related pain from other post-op presentations and guide more targeted management.

⏪ Friday Flashback: FAIS & painful hip flexion
When hip flexion is limited by pain and guarding in FAIS, pushing range is rarely the first answer.
💡 Instead, think:
• Calm the “grumpy joint”
🧠 Priorities should be around load management, restoring muscle support, and rebuilding pain-free function.
