A lot of people with knee arthritis can become fixated on one thing being wrong — the cartilage, or being told it's "bone on bone".

When they come into the clinic, this can open up the discussion that pain is more like a pie, with lots of different ingredients: muscle strength, flexibility, sleep, stress — even what you've been told by a health professional.

Once you understand that there are multiple things going into the pain, then you can start to see the areas that you can change for the better.

Curious where you stand? The free Arthritic Knee Scorecard (3 minutes) will show you.

The biggest fear I hear about knee arthritis? That every step is grinding the joint away.

Movement really is medicine for an arthritic knee — once you start to understand that pain is a warning, and there's limited blood supply to the cartilage, so the only way to get the nutrients is compression/release AKA walking. This knowledge helps you to start understanding when to push movement a little, and when to ease off.

Not sure where you're at with yours? The free Arthritic Knee Scorecard (3 minutes, link in the comments) will help you figure out your next step.

🦵 Final knee health drop-in for July

Tomorrow (Tuesday 28th July) is the last Knee Health Drop-In Clinic in July — if you've got a question about your knee, this is a good one to come along to.

Same as always: no appointment, no pressure, just a relaxed chat about knee pain, osteoarthritis, or what's safe to do exercise-wise.

📍 10:00–11:00am, The Health Hub, Cambridge

If this format's been useful, I'd love to keep it going — so if you've got thoughts on that, feel free to pop in and let me know, or send me a message.

Whether I see you Tuesday or not, the Arthritic Knee Scorecard is always there as a starting point. And I'm still around for online or in-person appointments too.

Knee pain doesn't always start in the knee.

How your foot hits the ground, how your ankle moves, and things like heel or tendon pain can all affect how load travels up through the leg — including the knee.

The team at Move Podiatry offer shockwave therapy, which can be really effective for stubborn tendon and heel issues.

If foot or ankle pain has been part of your picture, it's worth having a chat with them.

If you've got a sore knee and just want to ask a physio a few quick questions, come by The Health Hub in Manly next Tuesday between 10:00am and 11:00am. I'll be there for a free, informal chat.

To help cut through some of the noise around joint pain, I’m running this free Knee Health Drop-In Clinic on Cambridge Parade every Tuesday throughout July.

If you’ve been told your sore knee is “just wear and tear", it’s a pretty frustrating explanation. It doesn't actually tell you what’s safe to do, or why the joint hurts more on some days than others. The good news is that knees are much more adaptable than that old phrase makes out.

No bookings, no referrals, and no expectations. Just pop in for a quick, jargon-free chat about what’s going on and what your next steps should be.

📍 Where: The Health Hub, Cambridge Parade, Manly
🕙 When: Tuesdays, 10:00am – 11:00am (July only)
đź’˛ Cost: Free

Whether you’re wondering if it’s osteoarthritis, or you just want to know what exercises are actually safe to do, feel free to drop by.

See you there,
Claire
