Five years on from the launch of Living Witchery Beginner Witch Guide, it's become an indy classic for Aussie witches.

Last night, on a rather chilly Brisbane winter evening, I presented 'What’s Not Seen? Yet Present?' as the Roy Owen Memorial Lecture for the Queensland Federation of Astrologers

The annual lecture is an opportunity to present research on a topic of astrological interest. I chose asteroid Bennu as a case study in how astrologers develop meaning around newly discovered objects, following it from ancient Egyptian mythology through contemporary space science and into astrological practice.

The research also raised a larger question: how do we decide what belongs in an astrological chart? With more than 100,000 asteroids now catalogued, that is not simply a question of what we can interpret, but what deserves interpretation — and why.

It was an important lecture for me, not least because it is QFA’s 50th anniversary year. I also discovered afterwards that Roy Owen’s daughter had been in the audience, which made the occasion particularly special.

A cold night, a research rabbit hole, and a room of astrologers sharing an evening to think seriously about how astrological knowledge develops.

Thank you to for this glimpse of the evening from the audience perspective.

What's space exploration got to do with ancient Egyptian myth? Read on..!

Kim Fairminer writes about Bennu in the new C*I*A's Timelords Mission 016. Read her fascinating piece to learn more about the connection between space exploration and ancient Egyptian myth, exploring Bennu's role as a divine messenger - symbolised by the heron bird's presence that brings order out of chaos.

"This is what I’m doing here with Bennu - building meaning - but there’s that remarkable physical addition: the asteroid dust. What does bringing asteroid dust to Earth tell us? Does that research add to our astrological understanding? Do the astrological signatures of the key moments of these long space missions add meaning? There are some notable patterns emerging but only time will tell."

The AusAlert test is just minutes away. Of course, I had to take a peak at the transits. It's a curious chart. Not all is as it seems; there seems to be outsiders looking on...

Mars is the most angular planet, on the Descendant. This placement is also indicative of the system's purpose to communicate about danger, but it also makes me wonder if frenemy nation is observing or listening with malicious interest.

Moon in Capricorn in a received and applying square to stationary Saturn. This is serious business. Government not telling us the whole story that's for sure, and even if they were, plenty of people won't trust them anyway. We're all a bit grumpy.

The Nodes on the MC/IC axis. Again, I feel this describes the general distrust of authority and perfectionist tendencies by the test operators. MC ruler, Mercury in Cancer, they care.

With Venus up there in the 10th house and Pluto opposite Sun/Jupiter on the 3rd/9th axis, it looks like the test will be largely successful.

Let me know what you think of it all.

This chart shows the remarkable alignment of outer planets in July 2026. You might come across astrologers who refer to these sextiles and trines as “mini grand trines” but it's "Barbault's Basket" that seems to be the popularised term.

While it’s important to avoid diminishing the sweeping changes these harmonious alignments are likely to usher in, you don't have to wade too far into the internet to come across some wildly outlandish claims about what these alignments mean.

Don't get swept up in the silliness.

Sextiles and trines are considered “easy aspects” which means this series of alignments will bring collective changes quickly and without much effort; it doesn’t mean that you will wake up in a futuristic uptopia or like the outcomes. Even positive changes can make one feel very dizzy in the midst of it.

My 2026 forecast walks you through these rare alignments with key dates and without hyperbole.
