Could nutrition help reduce endometriosis pain?
Emerging research suggests it might.
A recent systematic review and meta-analysis of 9 randomised controlled trials involving over 500 women with endometriosis found that anti-inflammatory nutritional supplements were associated with a significant reduction in pelvic pain.
Some of the supplements studied included:
✨ Omega-3 fatty acids
✨ Vitamins D, C & E
✨ Melatonin
✨ Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)
✨ Milk thistle (silymarin)
✨ A traditional Chinese herbal formula
The greatest improvements were seen when supplementation was continued for more than 8 weeks, highlighting that consistency is key.
While the overall quality of the evidence was rated as low (mainly because the studies used different supplements, doses and treatment approaches), the findings are encouraging. They reinforce what I see in clinic every day—that reducing inflammation and supporting the body with the right nutrition can be an important part of a holistic endometriosis management plan.
Endometriosis is complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Alongside appropriate medical care, I look at nutrition, gut health, hormones, inflammation, lifestyle and targeted supplementation to create an individualised plan.
If you’re living with endometriosis and feel like you’ve tried everything, it may be worth exploring whether a personalised nutrition and supplement strategy could help support your symptoms.
Have you found any natural strategies that have made a difference to your pain? I’d love to hear your experience.
