What's one thing sitting in your "Must Have" column these days that wouldn't have been there five years ago?

The longer I work as an OT, the more I realise that what we need from our careers changes.

What mattered when I graduated isn't necessarily what matters now.

Life changes, priorities change. Sometimes our ideal role should too.

It's also a good opportunity to check in with your why. Not the answer you gave at university, but the reason you choose to keep showing up today. Has that changed too?

This quick exercise isn't about making big decisions. It's about taking 10 minutes to check in with yourself and notice what matters most right now.

I've turned it into a simple worksheet for OTs. Comment CHECK IN and I'll send it through. 💛

May was a good reminder of what makes Strive, Strive.

Katie's first month with the team has somehow made it feel like she's always been part of it.

We spent time learning at ATSA and Astris PME, sharing ideas in our Monday huddles, supporting each other through the week, and wrapping up the month with an escape room, drinks, nibbles, and plenty of laughs.

The work we do is important, but so are the people you get to do it with.

Bring on June 💛

Small reminder for community OTs: close the loop with your equipment reps.

A quick message after delivery does two useful things:

1️⃣ It gives the rep feedback on how things went.
2️⃣ It helps you build and maintain your relationship (keep the ones you work well with close!)

So don’t only message when something has gone wrong. Send the quick update. Say thank you. Close the loop. ➰

Those small habits make the next tricky thing easier.

Thanks to Mobility to You for being responsive and easy to work with! ✨

OT Café Diaries 📍 Coconut Coffee House in Ormiston

Quick stopover for this one. Just an iced latte and a croissant before heading off again.

☕ Coffee: 4/5
Iced latte and it hit the mark. Exactly what I needed that day.

🥐 Food: 3/5
Went with a croissant from the cabinet. Nice enough, but I do like a flakier croissant, so this one didn’t fully hit the spot for me.

🌿 Environment: 4/5
Lots of seating options and plenty of parking nearby, which always helps on busy workdays. It was also surprisingly quiet despite being the middle of the day. One thing to note though, it’s a little hidden and easy to miss the turn-off if you’re not paying attention.

✨ Bonus points:
Huge dine-in menu if you’ve got more time to properly sit down for a meal instead of grabbing cabinet food on the go.

⭐️ Overall: 4/5
A handy little stop when you want an easy coffee break with space to breathe and no chaos around you.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY ☀️

One thing we do as a team each Friday is share a feel-good moment from our week.

Something we're proud of. Something we're grateful for. Something that simply made us smile.

This week, it was our end-of-month team day.

We tackled an escape room together, followed it up with food, plenty of laughs, and the kind of conversations that can be hard to fit into a busy work week.

A good team isn't built only through meetings and supervision. Sometimes it's built while trying to work out why a monkey has escaped and where the missing clue ended up. 🧩

For a team that spends most of the week out in the community, these moments matter to us!

What's your Feel Good Friday this week?

For some clients, this website can make or break an outing. It can help take away the anxieties with planning your day.

Changing Places helps people locate accessible bathrooms and adult change facilities across Australia, including details like hoists, change tables, accessibility features, and whether there’s enough space for carers or support workers.

Hot Tip: Save the website directly to a phone home screen like an app. This makes it easier to access quickly while out and about. 📲

This can genuinely reduce stress for clients, carers, and support workers… and most people don't know about it.

This one is worth sharing around!

Hey you - have you heard of an MLAK? 👀

It's a key to unlocking more community participation for your client. 🔑

It gives people access to locked accessible toilets, Changing Places bathrooms, and adult change facilities across Australia.

As an OT, you should know it exists!

If you know someone who needs help with personal cares during outings, need more space because the normal disability toilets aren't enough or avoids longer outings because finding a bathroom that works for them is too hard, I want you to think about applying for an MLAK.

It's not only for wheelchair or mobility equipment users!

Save this for when it might come in handy! The last slide has the key websites worth knowing.

OT Café Diaries 📍 Degani Capestone

One of those café stops where you accidentally stay a bit longer than planned because the view, coffee and food are all doing their job. ☕️

☕️ Coffee: 5/5
Coffee was genuinely great. No complaints here.

🍽 Food: 4/5
Grabbed the nachos & a muffin for lunch! Great portion size, filling and really tasty.
Only thing to keep in mind is wait times will depend on how busy the café is, so maybe not the best option if you’re rushing between appointments. Not as many quick cabinet grab-and-go options compared to some other spots.

🌿 Environment: 5/5
Big win for the lakeside views and outdoor seating. Plenty of parking options nearby, toilets close by, and overall a really nice space.
Only downside, not many charging port options if you’re trying to get laptop work done.

✨ Bonus points:
Apparently Kodi Nikorima from the Dolphins gets his coffee beans here, so there’s always a chance for an unexpected spotting if you’re lucky. 🐬

⭐️ Overall: 4.5/5
A really solid northside café stop if you’ve got a little breathing room in your day and want somewhere that feels calm without sacrificing good coffee or food.

OT Café Diaries 📍 HitCafe Meadowbrook

Sometimes you just need a quick toastie and coffee that gets the job done.

🍽 Food: 3/5
Grabbed a pesto toastie from the cabinet and honestly, it was exactly what I expected. Yummy flavour, quick and easy, filling enough for when you’re not super hungry, but still your standard toastie. No wow factor, but no disappointment either.

☕ Coffee: 4/5
Solid cappuccino. Exactly what I needed for a quick reset.

🌿 Environment: 3.5/5
Lots of seating and parking options which makes it easy logistically. It can get busy with a fair bit of foot traffic though, so probably better suited for a quick pit stop rather than sitting down to smash out reports.

✨ Bonus points:
Easy parking and easy to be in and out as needed throughout the day.

⭐️ Overall: 3.5/5

A practical, low-fuss stop when you need something quick, easy and reliable without overthinking it.

No two people have the same body, home, supports, goals, or NDIS plan. What worked for someone else might not suit the person sitting in front of you.

What I come back to is simple:

➡️Acknowledge the comparison without getting defensive (validate)
➡️Bring it back to what actually matters for this person (name the boundary)
➡️Then give them something useful they can move forward with now (offer a quick win)

Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is slow the comparison down and bring the conversation back to fit, function, and long-term outcomes.
