I used to think being a good practitioner meant always having the answers. But the deeper I’ve gone into naturopathy, neuroscience and the human body, the more I’ve realised… Being well doesn’t mean life never knocks you around. It means learning how to support yourself when it does.
This post is a collection of the tools I lean on personally, as much as the tools I recommend professionally.
5 tools I come back to when life feels overwhelming 🌿
1. Coming back to the basics:
When everything feels like too much, I don’t add more complexity, I simplify.
Nourishing & warming meals. Saying NO. Hydration (electrolytes, coconut water, aloe, filtered water) Sunlight, especially those first morning rays. The foundations are often the most powerful medicine.
2. Creating safety in the nervous system:
Your body can’t regulate when it constantly feels like it’s under threat. Slow breathing, grounding methods in grass, water and sand, spending time in nature, connecting with people who make you feel safe, and reminding yourself “I am okay in this moment” can all help signal safety to your nervous system.
3. Moving my body without punishment:
Movement is one of my favourite ways to shift stress physiology, but not with intensity. Sometimes it’s swimming, walking, stretching, or simply reconnecting with my body. The goal isn’t to push harder. It’s to feel better.
4. Supporting the body, not fighting it:
When symptoms appear, it’s easy to become frustrated with your body. I’ve learned to ask:
“What is my body trying to communicate?” Symptoms are not failures, they’re signals.
5. Giving myself permission to be human:
This one has probably been the biggest lesson. Healing isn’t linear. Life will always have seasons of uncertainty, stress and change.
The goal isn’t to never struggle; it’s to have the tools to support yourself through it.
These are the same principles I bring into my clinic every day: evidence-informed naturopathy, nervous system support, and a reminder that your body is always trying to move towards balance. 🤍
