End of an Era! 2 1/2 years as a Clinical Educator for the Periods, Pain and Endometriosis Program (PPEP Talk) for Queensland and Northern Territory.

I’ve travelled to some of the most rural places in Australia to spread education and awareness on pelvic pain, endometriosis, improving access to quality help and removing the shame that surrounds women’s health still.

I’ve presented to 18,781 students and 284 schools, and am so grateful to have been there to answer the questions of so many young minds who need help and a safe space to talk.

I started this role with the goal to also give light and attention to the modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Since my time here, I have presented nationwide to GPs, Gynaecologists, and other allied health practitioners about the efficacy and benefits of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. It has had a bigger ripple effect than I had hoped. Acupuncture is now included in our nationwide program that we present to each high school across Australia, with a handout I created, featuring the most effective acupressure points for people to try at home to manage their pelvic pain. Pelvic pain networks and clinics across Australia have now been including acu puncture in their referral networks and getting practitioners to present to their clinics. I am so proud that I can move on to my next journey, knowing that I completed more than what I aimed for in this role and have done Chinese Medicine justice in this role.

I’ve met absolutely incredible people from all walks of life who have touched my heart, opened my mind and have taught me so much.

My passion is forever improving health and education around women’s health. Onto the next big thing, at the Gold Coast!

I’m so excited to be presenting an education training session for GPs and Allied Health Practitioners for the gorgeous organisation I work for, The Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia, on Acupuncture for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis.

I’ll be talking through the neuroimmune and physiological effects of acupuncture that are shown to reduce endometriosis related pain and when GPs and other health practitioners should refer their patients to a registered Acupuncturist for symptom management.

Can’t wait to represent the beautiful medicine that is Traditional Chinese Medicine, and give it the attention that it deserves in the space of pelvic pain!

ENDO UPDATE! The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare have reported a new statistic regarding the prevalence of Endometriosis. It has been reported that this chronic disease now statistically affects 1 in 7 people with a uterus, in contrary to the 1 in 9 number that was given in the 2019 report.

The rate of endometriosis hospitalisations has doubled amongst AFAB patients aged 20-24yrs, in the past decade.

With the constant increase in prevalence of Endometriosis, let’s hope that a cure and known cause is on the horizon 🤞

A little in love with our home-grown ginger 🥰

In Chinese Medicine, Ginger is frequently used in herbal medicines and decoctions. It’s a warming herb that helps to sooth the stomach (great for nausea or digestive upset) and is extremely powerful in relieving pain (it’s a favourite of mine for period pain).

Can’t wait to use this ginger all throughout the cooler months to keep the flow of Qi and Blood moving in the body 🍂
