EMMETT Technique International

EMMETT Technique International The EMMETT Technique is a gentle, soft touch, safe and simple to apply muscle release therapy.

This internationally recognised technique developed by Ross Emmett and taught in over 40 countries worldwide is equally effective on both people and animals. The EMMETT Technique is a unique muscle release therapy developed by Australian massage and remedial therapist, Ross Emmett. The Technique involves applying light finger pressure to specific points on the body, known as "EMMETT points." These

points differ from traditional trigger or acupressure points and are stimulated using gentle pressure, allowing for effective muscle release and improved movement without the need for pain. Focused on achieving physical and emotional wellbeing through minimal touch, the method is based on the principle that light touch triggers a subconscious response in the soft tissues of the body. Symptoms that have been relieved:
🔹Neck & shoulder restriction/discomfort
🔹Lymphatic congestion & breathing
🔹Migraines or headaches
🔹Abdominal cramps & bowel discomfort
🔹Heel and foot pain
🔹Dizziness & sinus congestion
🔹Back & hip discomfort
🔹Knee & ankle restriction
🔹Discomfort during pregnancy
🔹Fluid retention
🔹And much more!

This week’s instructor tip comes from Susan Hilbert, an EMMETT Instructor and Practitioner with seven years of experience across both human and animal modalities.

As an independent, accredited saddle fitter and certified practitioner for both horses and humans, Susan offers a unique blend of expertise to every session. While she possesses a vast toolkit, she primarily uses the EMMETT Technique because of its speed and clinical effectiveness. Susan now shares this knowledge far and wide, instructing others in how to achieve maximum results with minimal input.

🟡 Her tip for practitioners and students? Never underestimate the simplicity of the foundation. What you learn in Level 1 is incredibly powerful - it is the fundamental core of the Technique and often all that is needed to trigger a significant neuromuscular reset.

🔵 The result? Susan has seen this firsthand in her courses, such as a client regaining hand mobility years after a motorcycle accident with a single forearm release, or horses overcoming deep trauma to partner with their new owners.

This tip is for anyone starting their EMMETT journey or looking to refine their clinical results by returning to the core principles.

Sometimes the cause of your recurring pain is hanging in your wardrobe 👗

Everyday items can create physical restriction. A gold Rolex might be a status symbol, but for one golfer, it was the hidden cause of a restricted swing.

The EMMETT Technique teaches practitioners to look for these clothing culprits:

🔵 Bra straps creating shoulder indentations and neck pain
🟡 Tight clothing in babies contributing to colic-type symptoms
🔵 Accessories affecting grip strength and coordination

Before assuming a pain is chronic, check your gear - a simple adjustment might be all you need.

Could lymphatic drainage be a key tool in dementia care 🧠

Recent pilot research from 2024 has explored how the EMMETT lymphatic drainage technique may support those living with mild to moderate dementia. By stimulating the lymphatic system, this gentle approach helps the body eliminate metabolic waste and supports the brain's natural clearing processes.

The study showed promising improvements in:

🟡 Sleep quality - easier onset and longer duration
🔵 Cognitive function - better scores in memory tests
🟡 Daily wellbeing - enhanced mental and physical states

A non-invasive, compassionate addition to the dementia care toolkit.

Release doesn't have to be forceful to be effective 🔓

In many forms of bodywork, the focus is on working through the tension. EMMETT takes a different path. By using a light touch on specific receptor points, we invite the brain to release the muscle voluntarily.

It is like clicking a refresh button on your physical system.

🚫 No heavy pressure
🚫 No painful manipulations
✅ Just a clear signal to the body to let go

Today, the spotlight is on Susan Hilbert, an EMMETT Instructor and Practitioner from Australia. Operating Equine EMMETT Therapy and Saddle Fitting, Susan has spent the last seven years perfecting a dual-stream approach that supports both human and animal wellbeing.

Susan’s interest in the EMMETT Technique was sparked by a desire to provide better support for horses. That initial curiosity quickly transformed as she saw how the Technique could bridge the gap between physical comfort and the emotional bond between horse and rider.

Now an Advanced Practitioner and Instructor, Susan helps others discover the power of the chameleon approach - showing how gentle, non-invasive releases can create profound changes in any environment.

Physical discomfort rarely happens overnight - it builds quietly until it’s impossible to ignore 📉

Daily habits, repetitive movements, and even the way we sit at our desks can create a stacking effect of tension. This build-up can lead to shallow breathing, headaches, and a loss of momentum in our daily lives.
The EMMETT Technique provides a way to interrupt that cycle before it becomes a chronic issue.

🔵 Break the pattern of tension
🟡 Restore your energy levels
🔵 Support your body’s ability to bounce back

Don't wait for the "breaking point" to seek a release.

The results of an EMMETT assessment can be dramatic, even for first-time clients ⚖️

Both humans and animals often carry silent imbalances - small compensations that eventually lead to bigger issues like pain or poor performance.

The EMMETT Technique is designed for fast, accurate assessment of these physical deviations.

By identifying where the body is out of balance, a practitioner can apply a specific release to restore symmetrical movement and prevent further strain on joints.

Precision in assessment leads to efficiency in results.

Is your old friend moving a little slower these days 🐕

Wellbeing for dogs isn't just about diet and exercise - it's about how their bodies handle the physical mileage of life. As dogs age, stiffness can settle into their hips and spine, making their favourite walks feel like a chore.
The EMMETT Technique for Animals offers a compassionate way to:

🐶 Ease age-related stiffness
🐶 Support better balance and stability
🐶 Maintain quality of life in their senior years

A gentle touch can make a world of difference to their daily comfort.

A slight imbalance in the rider can speak volumes to the horse 🐎

In the world of equestrian sport, harmony is everything. The EMMETT Technique looks at the horse and rider as a team. When a horse has a restricted shoulder or a tight lower back, it affects their stride, their temperament, and their ability to perform.

By using light pressure on specific points, EMMETT helps to:

🔵 Improve stride length and fluidity
🟡 Relieve tension from tack or repetitive work
🔵 Support a calmer, more focused animal

Find balance for your horse and yourself.
