Dr. Campbell-McBride graduated with Honours as a Medical Doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia. After practicing for five years as a Neurologist and three years as a Neurosurgeon she started a family and moved to the UK. It was during this time that Dr. Campbell-McBride developed her theories on the relationship between neurological disorders and nutrition, and completed a second Postgraduate Degree in Human Nutrition at Sheffield University, UK. Dr. Campbell-McBride returned to practice in 2000 and runs the Cambridge Nutrition Clinic. She has specialised in using nutritional approach as a treatment, and has become recognised as one of the worldโ€™s leading experts in treating children and adults with learning disabilities and other mental disorders, as well as children and adults with digestive and immune disorders. In 2004 she published a book Gut And Psychology Syndrome. Natural Treatment Of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Depression And Schizophrenia where she explores the connection between the patient's physical state and brain function. The book gives full details of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol, highly successful in treating patients with learning disabilities and other mental problems. A second edition was published in 2010, and the book has been translated into fourteen languages. In her clinic Dr. Campbell-McBride works with many patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, stroke and other complications of atherosclerosis. She has become acutely aware of the existing confusion about nutrition and these conditions, which spurred an intensive study into this subject. The result of this study is her book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth! What really is Heart Disease and what can we do to Prevent and even Reverse it. The book was published in December 2007 and a second addition in March 2016. Her new book, Vegetarianism Explained, has come out in 2017. Dr Campbell-McBride has been working with many young people who have chosen a plant-based life style and as a result became very ill. This lead to an intense study into the value of plant foods versus animal foods, which resulted in this book. Dr. Campbell-McBride is a keynote speaker at many professional conferences and seminars worldwide. She is also a Member of The Society of Authors, The British Society for Environmental Medicine, and a Board Member of the Weston A Price Foundation. She is a regular contributing health editor to a number of journals, magazines, newsletters, and radio programs around the world.

It is common for people starting the GAPS Introduction diet to experience a blood sugar drop resulting in hypoglycemia. When carbohydrates have been a large part of the diet the body needs to adjust from a carbohydrate burning metabolism to a fat burning metabolism. Many people coming to the GAPS program are sugar and carbohydrate addicted so when they begin the GAPS introduction diet they may begin to experience symptoms of low blood sugar.โ
โ
Some of the most concerning symptoms include chills, nausea, headaches, fatigue, rapid heart rate and irritability.โ
View the GAPS Australia Blog for the full list of symptoms.โ
โ
Here are some suggestions to Balance Blood Sugar on GAPS Intro?โ
The following options will assist the management of hypoglycemia during the GAPS introduction early stages.โ
โ
๐Ÿƒ Coconut oil/honey mixture - mix 1 cup of softened unrefined coconut oil with 2 tablespoons of raw honey. Store this in a glass jar and consume a spoonful every 20 minutes, or as needed.โ
โ
๐Ÿƒ Fresh pressed apple juice - offer them half a cup of juice at the first sign of low blood sugar and take small sips at a time. You may also freeze the juice into ice cubes and these can be sucked on as needed. Itโ€™s ideal to include a spoon of fat, like coconut oil or ghee, along with this to slow down the sugar absorption.โ
โ
๐Ÿƒ Meat Stock โ€“ meat stock also contains glycine which increases the effect of insulin, the main hormone involved in regulating our blood sugar levels. This ensures our cells use the glucose efficiently as fuel rather than converting and storing it as fat. Chicken meat stock is gentler on the stomach and contains less histamines compared to bone broth which is cooked for longer.โ

International Myasthenia Gravis (MG) Awareness Month takes place throughout June. It is a time to highlight this rare autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that causes fluctuating muscle weakness and fatigue.

MG is an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the connection between nerves and muscles.

Key Symptoms: Fatiguable muscle weakness that worsens with activity and improves with rest. Common early signs include drooping eyelids, double vision, and difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing.

Here in Brisbane MG initiatives shine bright in teal to raise awareness for Myasthenia Gravis across the Brisbane story Bridge and a walk to support awareness taking place with the start from New Farm park and throughout Brisbane city. This nationwide illumination initiative is a powerful way to spark conversations, educate the public, and show solidarity with the MG community.
From iconic bridges to city buildings and local monuments, these illuminated landmarks help put MG in the spotlight, ensuring that more Australians understand this rare neuromuscular condition and the impact it has on those living with it.

Join me for some more video shares tomorrow as I walk with my father who has managed MG over the past 10 years. Love your positivity Dad. ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿƒ

Healthy animal fats are a valuable part of the GAPS diet. They help stabilise blood sugar levels, keep you feeling satisfied for longer, reduce cravings, and support steady energy throughout the day.

When your body is properly nourished with quality fats, youโ€™re less likely to experience hunger spikes and overeating, which can naturally reduce your overall calorie intake.

Fat isnโ€™t the enemyโ€”itโ€™s an essential nutrient that supports hormones, brain function, cell health, and lasting satiety. Sometimes the most nourishing foods are the ones weโ€™ve been taught to fear. So the next time you go to cut off the fat on your steak or pork crackle, remember how much harder your digestive system needs to work to digest and absorb the nutrients from your protein and all the benefits mentioned above ๐Ÿ‘Œ
