Need a fun and engaging resource for young kids working on fine motor and visual motor integration skills? Check out magnetic drawing boards! This resource encourages the use of a pen, to help build hand and finger strength, with a board that provides tactile sensory feedback and a "click" as the metal balls snap into place underneath. The slide-to-erase lever clears the board in seconds for infinite drawing 🖍

Introducing Fiona! OCC Therapy started out as On Call Children’s Therapy Network back in 2008 and was founded by our very own Dr Fiona Jones! Fiona is not only an incredibly skilled therapist, but also the business brains behind OCC. Fiona has earned many accolades during her years as an Occupational Therapist. She is passionate about providing opportunities for children to reach their full potential, whatever that may be, and become happy, confident, independent adults.

Our fantastic Senior OT Georgia shares some insights from a recent PD she attended in November 2025 called " Understanding Pain – A Regulation and Sensory Informed Approach to Pain in OT" (at the OT Australia CPD Empower Event):

The PD explored Pain Science, key theories and frameworks that can be applied to pain, and how sensory processing and regulation strategies, including Polyvagal Theory, can be integrated into OT practice. The afternoon session focused on applying this theory and science to real world scenarios, with the opportunity to engage in brainstorming and discussions with other participants. What I loved about this session was hearing how my fellow colleagues would approach the real-world scenarios we were discussing in different ways. Evidence of the value of shared learning experiences, and the diverse perspectives we can offer.

My biggest takeaway of the day was definitely complex not complicated. Pain, particularly persistent pain is most certainly complex, but it does not mean we need to overcomplicate our approach. As a clinician, my primary goal is supporting my clients and families but there are times where this can feel like an overwhelming task at times. This PD opportunity was a wonderful and timely reminder of just how much we already have in our ‘toolkits’ of strategies, knowledge and resources.
This PD Event has me feeling energised and excited about the role of OT in pain, especially in my paediatric caseload. I am very much looking forward to continuing to explore paediatric pain in OT through further learning and research opportunities.

Ali enjoys working in schools and supporting families via telehealth, as well as supporting early-career clinicians to expand their clinical skills.

This coming Thursday the 11th of June marks the International Day of Play!

International Day of Play is a time to celebrate the power of play. It’s a time to raise awareness about how central play is to every child’s development and well-being. And it’s a time when we can come together to make sure that every child is able to fulfil their right to play.

The theme for this year’s International Day of Play is “Protect play, protect childhood”. The theme is a reminder for all of us – governments, businesses, schools and families – that happy and healthy childhoods are built on play.

Play builds creativity, resilience, and social skills, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning and well-being. In too many communities, children's access to free, unstructured play is shrinking as public spaces become unsafe, inaccessible, or unhealthy – particularly in dense urban settings and humanitarian contexts. Without safe spaces, even the most engaged caregivers struggle to support children’s right to play.
