✨Footwork is one of the foundational Reformer Pilates exercises✨
It may look simple, but we’re working on leg strength, foot and ankle connection, pelvic stability and whole-body alignment. Footwork can be performed in several positions, including on toes, arches and heels, with each variation changing the emphasis slightly.
Benefits of Footwork: 🙌🏻
✔️Strengthens your legs: works the quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves through controlled resistance
✔️Builds pelvic and core stability: the goal is to move the legs while keeping your pelvis and ribcage stable
✔️Improves lower body alignment: footwork encourages you to maintain good alignment through the feet, ankles, knees and hips
✔️Develops foot and ankle strength: changing the position of your feet allows you to work on different aspects of foot and ankle control
✔️Teaches control: it’s not just about pushing the carriage out, it’s about controlling the movement both out and in
✔️Prepares the body for more advanced exercises: many movements later in our Reformer classes require the same principles of leg alignment, pelvic stability and carriage control.
💡 Instructor Tip: “Slow down and control the return of the carriage, don’t let the springs control you.”
Next time you’re on the Reformer, see if you can feel the difference! 👀✨”
See you in class!💙
