“Climb With Me: Choose Your Mountain.”

I’ve thought long and hard as to how best to sum up our recent Community Everesting event. But how do you capture all the emotions, all the highs and the lows? Because this was a night and day that had absolutely everything.

Weather gods at their nastiest; traffic behaving; friends and supporters bringing cheers, hugs, coffee, and love. Community members pushing themselves to places they’d never been and in doing so, inspiring us that we’re climbing to the top of Everest.

Ultimately though, a call had to be made to stop. One of the hardest calls I’ve had to make. It was the right one.

A week later, I received a message from a friend. She said this, “Sometimes, success is letting go of succeeding”. If ever there was a statement that captured Climb With Me, then this is it.

Together with our community, we didn’t bemoan what we hadn’t achieved, but rather, what we had. I’m so proud of not just what Sammy and Joel accomplished, but how they changed the narrative of disappointment into a story and a message of resilience. They have their own stories to share if and when they’re ready. Mine is how incredible it was to watch them both rise above the disappointment, turn around and see what they had achieved, and embrace just how incredible their achievements were.

When you let go of succeeding, you get to enjoy every step, every moment, and every memory of getting to your summit on the day.

“Sometimes success is letting go of succeeding”.

Until next time, stay beautiful my friends.

“All About the Base - Climbs 1 to 6.”

Here’s the first habits to embrace on the journey to building a metal wellness base.

Climb 1: Fears Shared are Fears Conquered
- It’s not only the problem that is halved by sharing. When you feel paralysed by fear, turn to your friends. A fear shared is a fear defeated.

Climb 2: Comparison is the Thief of Happiness
- Today was different to last week. You’re different to last week. So no more comparison to last week. Enjoy the moment, enjoy where you are, enjoy who you’re with.

Climb 3: Choose Your Memories
- Remember the good times when you overcame the adversities of life, so that next time you’re staring at the top of a mountain, you know that you got this.

Climb 4: Act First. Think Later.
- Next time procrastination kicks in, instead of thinking of all the ways it won’t work, just getting going and then think of the one reason it will work: you.

Climb 5: Repeat the Repeatable.
- Repeat the repeatables when you’re faced with a problem or an adversity. Go to what’s worked in the past and do it again. Who knows how many mountains you’ll be able to climb.

Climb 6: The Sounds of Silence.
- Sometimes you’ve got to switch off and just embrace silence. Just be, just breathe, and focus on you. Silence the noisey distractions and embrace the sounds of silence.

Until next time, stay beautiful my friends.

We’ve all no doubt heard the saying, “the camera never lies”. Well, this selfie I took this morning perfectly captures that.

It’s a little hazy, a bit blurred, but I’m still managing my version of a selfie smile. Inside, however, today hasn’t been good. And a lot of days last 6 months haven’t been good.

Supporting someone you love through a grieving process, dealing with your own grief, is bloody hard. It’s like watching someone physically in pain, wanting to swap places, & knowing you can’t.

And now, I’m dealing with loosing my job because I chose to support a friend in need. Something I don’t regret one bit!
As a result, I’m now faced with the process of looking for work and dealing with the inevitability of rejection - a fear I’ve carried my entire life.

So this photo captures me at the moment. A bit blurred, a bit hazy, a bit out of focus, but still trying my best to smile and get on with life.

You never know what someone’s going through. Be kind to your family, your friends, the strangers you meet, the person serving you, the person answering your call, your Uber driver, and most of all, be kind to yourself.

You never know when an act of kindness, like having a coffee or offering a smile, will be all it takes for someone to get through their day and see their tomorrow.

Until next we chat, stay beautiful my friends. And never, ever forget:
