What if the behaviour you’re trying to stop… is actually helping them learn?

Not every child learns best sitting still. Some need to move, fidget, pace, build or create while they think.
So When we begin to understand the “why” behind a behaviour, we often discover it’s not getting in the way of learning it may actually be part of it.

Tell me in comment if you have ever noticed your child learns better when they’re moving? 💛

What if your child came home from a gathering feeling calmer and happier than when they arrived?

That hope is exactly why I do what I do.

Watching our children connect through nature, creativity, shared interests and simply being together at their own pace without the pressure to mask or fit in while us parents found understanding, encouragement and genuine, supportive conversations is exactly why I voluntarily host our Wildcraft Homeschool Gatherings.

As a neurodivergent homeschooling family ourselves, socialising isn’t the hard part. It actually Finding a space where kids feel safe to be themselves is.

From my lived experience, I know how meaningful and how rare it can be to find a community where children are accepted for who they are and parents can finally exhale, knowing they’re surrounded by people who truly understand.

Honestly, Every new family who joins reminds me that this vision is slowly becoming a reality of a gentle, welcoming, cost-free community where all of us families can connect, feel they belong, find their people and leave feeling more connected than when they arrived.

To everyone who has joined us and helped shape this community thank you. Your presence is what makes this vision possible.

If your family has been searching for something like this, or you know someone who may be, w’d love to welcome you.

💌 Feel free to send me a message to find out more about our next Wildcraft Homeschool Gathering.

📣 Calling North Queensland home educating families on behalf of the Queensland Home Education.

Queensland Home Education Consultative Group (QHECG) currently has parent representatives from across Queensland (myself included, representing the SE region alongside another SE parent representative), including DDSW, CQ, MS, MN and NC regions. Together, we help bring the experiences, perspectives and voices of home educating families into important conversations.

We’re currently seeking a parent representative from the North Queensland region to join the group, so families across the north can have their experiences represented and their perspectives included.

If you are a home educating parent from Townsville, Mt Isa, Ingham, Proserpine, Charters Towers, Boulia, Normanton, Karumba or anywhere in between and would be interested in contributing your perspective, we would love to hear from you.

Every region has its own unique experiences, challenges and strengths. Having North Queensland represented helps ensure the diversity of home educating families across Queensland state is reflected.

If you’re not from North Queensland but know someone who may be interested, please tag them below or get in touch with me 😊

Another new article alert all about the rise in homeschooling

Featuring another QLD family and our amazing Dr Rebecca English, senior lecturer in education at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Homeschooling in Australia: Geni Kelepouris had never entertained the idea of home schooling until her daughter Lizzie was suspended 21 times in Year 1 alone.

I always find it funny how many people still assume home educated kids don’t socialise.

Does anyone realise how many home educating families there are these days?

Groups are overflowing where we live. But even for families who work and can’t make daytime meet-ups, there are sports, clubs, classes, community groups and activities running in the evenings and on weekends including my own social gathering on Brisbane’s Southside, which especially welcomes neurodivergent families.

The reality is that socialisation doesn’t only happen in a classroom with 25 children of the exact same age. I’m speaking from our own lived experience not only as a home educating mum but also as a former school mum and ex teacher aide.
It happens in the real world with people of all ages in all kinds of settings.

In many ways our kids have more opportunities to build meaningful connections than ever before.

💬 What’s the funniest or most surprising thing someone has said to you about home education?

Or, if you’re just starting out what’s the biggest myth you’ve heard?

Let’s see how many we can bust in the comments👇

To the parents who are running on empty. Not every day has to be productive.

Sometimes the most important thing our family can do after a day full of appointments, playdates, co-ops, transitions and demands is slow down and recover.

Recovery and reset days have become an important part of our family’s rhythm especially as a neurodivergent family. They’ve taught us that rest isn’t a reward. It’s part of caring for our nervous systems to recharge and regulate again so we can keep showing up for what matters.

What helps your family reset after a big day? Share below, we’re always learning from each other❤️
